[Film] Akira LA movie still alive
http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17307
"The website breaks some incredible news reporting that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the duo behind Children of Men and Iron Man, are about to turn in their version of the film that takes place in Manhattan where a teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment which unleashes his latent powers."

Well not really, but the Manga does need to be put on film. Which is what the live action version is going to be. Especially when you consider that the manga could be perfectly split into two and there will be 2 movies. Since a manga adaptation was the idea, I consider this to be a very good sign, since lazy Hollywood would just take the anime movie and make that into a movie.

Hollywood projects are much like Lovecraftian monsters. They don't die, they just sleep, waiting for the stars to be right, waiting for long days, so that even death may die.Guyver Spawn wrote:And I was hoping for this movie to stay dead =(.

Tarantino is honestly not a good director(He's an extremely good writer though. Extremely.) and Kubrick is, well....dead.
Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuarón, Sogo Ishii or Neill Blomkamp. Someone who has a raw style basically.

I know that the manga-adaptation was initially the idea, but the manga's so long that it more deserves a miniseries than movies--and the miniseries would probably be best if it were animated. I just see all the WTF moments of Akira coming off as lame and gaudy with mixed CGI/live action visuals.

I'm sad to see this movie is still out there because I believe Americans are totally incapable of handling the subject matter of Akira properly. It's set in New York? How original.

But it's not unoriginal for a movie to take place in Tokyo? Face it, New York is America's Tokyo and it's a lot more convenient to shoot there, rather than go to Tokyo.

Except that they'll probably just shoot a few seconds of establishing shots in New York, and then film the whole thing in Windsor and call it New York.
Rejoice, glory is ours. Our young men have not died in vain. Their graves need no flowers. The tapes have recorded their names.

Negative! Primative! Limited! I let you live.
But I gave you life.
What else could you do?
To do what was right.
I'm perfect, are you?

I am surprised that WB is making Akira such "a priority film", the costs that are to be involved are likely to not be cost-effective considering how things are economically, I would assume a few film projects would have to shelved in the interim and their funds redirected to LA Akira
I wonder now who(m) exactly at WB has made this THE film to make right NAOW, maybe there's still this "high" WB is still on from The Dark Knight and they think a film like Akira is the next big film that's the most similar
both Children of Men and Iron Man were awesome, and this could turn out much better than any live action adaption yet, but I will wait until there's a director named, main cast signed on, productions starts, screenshots, etc., to hold back any judgment
and what thewayneiac said about "New York"
