Sea of Dirac in the real world

i've been looking around for information about this to see if it's seen as a real theory and from the minascule evidence i've obtained, that seems to be the case, but it isn't looked at in the same way as in eva.

i'd like to know if anybody knows anything about it- and if they do -what?

from what i've seen it's got something to do with positive protons with negative charge or something along those lines.

a more in depth question into eva- for me anyway

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirac_sea

The "sea" is a metaphor - all negative energy states of the electron, zero-energy being "sea level". It was a useful concept in its time (late 1920s), but as further formalisms and metaphors were developed to help get to grips with the weirdnesses of quantum mechanics, it has really become just a quaint historical term, like "cathode rays".

thanks for that. i'll have to put on my Physics cap and try and work out what everything means, but it'll be "rewarding"

My physics knowledge is far from extensive, but of one things I am certain. There is no insight into the relevant scenes NGE to be gained from this - the "real" Sea of Dirac does not seem to be similar to the manifestation which was given that name in NGE.

I know that's not why you're doing it, Ice Reaper, and I do wish you the best of luck with your project. I just thought it was worth clearing that up right away.

man Anno messed with our heads on this one. So basically, he named something the Sea of Dirac which isn't actually a Sea of Dirac?

Well, maybe it is the Sea of Dirac where all the negative energy states do exist? I have no idea what this would mean though. they would have been better off calling it a Riemann space or something.

If you do an outrageous generalisation of the Dirac Sea concept; from being the continuum of all negative energy (and thus anomalous) quantum states of the electron, to being a region exhibiting a continuum of anomalous states of the pre-geometry/spin-foam that makes up space time, then the idea could just about be rescued. There's some anomalous geometry, for sure, since the zebra-striped sphere acts like the other side of the black circular patch.

I did my reading, and you seem as though you will need it. ^_^
