The german company which bought the license for Evangelion 1.01 is already negotiating for the DVD release of Evangelion 2.0.

They will probably get it again. But anyway. They there already told that the earliest date for the DVD release is January 2010.

So it won´t take that long this time. I expect a Japanese release in decembre 2009.

DVD's take longer in Japan then they do in the USA. Don't expect a DVD like until Q2 or maybe Q3 of 2010.

A poster on a forum isn't the most definite source on the net, but he hasn't really shown any reason to date not to trust him.

I trust him fine. It's the previous posters who've been dismissive.

I meant that regarding the post I linked to. It was just in advance, 'cause I wouldn't blindly trust something some guy I don't know posts on some board either.

Well Film 1.0 came out on DVD in Q2 of 2008 and it's release date was over two months later in the year than this new film.

My estimate for a DVD release in Japan is late January/February of 2010.

But who knows, the Market is a weird business. The new Eureka Seven movie goes to DVD two months after it's theatrical release. It's unpredictable when films hit the home market sometimes.

At the current rate, German speakers will be able to have Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0 before we get to see an english version.

Oh well, patience is needed.

i wonder why is that? If the German distributors can get their hands on each Rebuild film so quickly why can't our own American distributors do the same?

What kind of insane logistics are holding them back? Darn it! :nyao:

Yeah, right. That's probably why we didn't get a proper* DVD release until Platinum ~2005.

*There was a limited Box in... '99/2000, I think, which had the entire series on 3 DVDs. Rather bad compression, and the subtitles were inferior to the previous VHS release (much of the on-screen text was lost, especially during Operation Yashima) - though I actually still prefer the actual translation over ADV's.

And let's not even start with D&R and EoE, which we only got quite a while after the US (in 2005), but in a quality that makes Mangle's version fantastic in comparison; and the (dub) translation was sometimes ridiculously bad. I'm not gonna list everything here, but believe me (I know it might be hard) - it's much worse than the english translation, despite the "gunslap" or the whole "Lilith came from Adam" (hell, they even added to that one).

Apologies, but at least they seem to be making up for it.

Yeah... But see it like this: You still have the chance of getting 1.11 right away instead - we'd have to buy it again (if it gets here at all). And who knows how often 2.0 will be redone... XP

I don't see why we wouldn't get 1.11.
