Not sure if this was done before and if it was then move it. For me it was My Neighbor Totoro back in 1995 and I remember renting it at a video store since My mom know I love Japanese stuff like Godzilla and battle ships as a kid. Then she rented the movie for the whole family and we all love it.

Technically it was unico and the island of magic, but that was when I was a little kid and didnt really know anything about anime. The first anime I saw when I knew stuff about anime was the 1980's guyver oav series.

My Neighbor Totoro. My first anime series that I've watched, however, was SAILOR MOOOOOOOON!

For me I saw a couple episodes of Pokemon as a kid, but I didn't seriously start watching anime until a couple of years ago when I picked up on the Japanese and eventually later on the (properly) FUNimation dubbed version of One Piece.

I saw bits and pieces of Astro Boy on TV, since it was a favorite of my little sister.
The first full anime that I watched was Akira, when it first came to theatres twenty years ago.

Dragon Ball Z... I saw it when I was 8... I hated it even then... I shunned all of anime for the next 10-11 years...
Recognized good anime 2-3 years ago when a friend told me to watch Akira, and I realized that I had a LOT of catching up to do...

I think my second anime that was shortly followed afterwards was G1 Transformers on CN back in the 90's.

I forgot Transformers was an anime. That would have to be my first, then. Although I was clueless at the time that it was Japanese produced.

Pokemon was the first anime I ever really watched, when it first started airing in the US, so 1999 or something. I watched a little Digimon but never really got into it too much. I had some friends really into DBZ but I thought it was about the dumbest thing ever made and never watched it.

Next anime I watched was Evangelion, and that's pretty much where I stopped. I've seen most of Cowboy Bebop but I could never get the last few episodes and have never bothered watching them online anywhere....I should though that show is really good and I don't know why I never finished watching it.

But pretty much the only anime I still watch to this day is Evangelion.

For me, it was Marine Boy, which was airing dubbed on Australian TV in the late '60s -- on those rare occasions when we were in the region where there was TV.

There was then a long gap (30-some years) until I caught a Miyazaki season at the local art house cinema, and then got into the idea of watching DVDs on a PC at home, at which point I resumed with Dirty Pair Flash.

Maya the Bee, then Voltron. Back then I thought they were just random American cartoons, though.

Kinda watched bits and pieces of Akira, Ghost in the Shell, BA Alita, and Ninja Scroll when my older brother rented them and he explained what they were.

Sailor Moon during its USA Network run was the first anime I watched attentively when I actually knew was anime was. Either Evangelion or Fushigi Yuugi was the first non-mainstream only-on-video type anime I watched completely.

Pokemon, I guess, then Digimon and DBZ. I saw Miyazaki's Laputa when my mother dragged me to it at a film festival against my will, and next festival I dragged all my friends to Pricess Mononoke. And that was the beginning of the end.

Astroboy on some random cartoon station. Probably YTV, if by some insane happenstance you know what that is.

Technically tho, it was AKIRA. I was very young; maybe 9 or 10 at most. I randomly found it in the drama section of an old video store while picking out some other movies. I saw the cover and thought to myself "a sci-fi cartoon with guns? this is surely bad ass!" and immediately added it to my selection. Needless to say, I didn't sleep that night after watching it. I remember running a bath and just sitting in the water until I realized I was freezing and had to get out. I caught a cold from that too.

Thus, anime irrevocably changed who I am as a person and secured a presence in my life. (probably not for the better) :nyao:

Technically, Inspector Gadget is considered an anime series, so that was the first I ever watched. However, Eva was the first series I actually really got into (I disregard Yu-gi-oh and Pokemon, 'cuz that was just a mass-trend).
