Well, I loved Super Metroid and Metroid II... but I'm not sure about the 3D stuff. I do like that they're doing new stuff with the series. It seems more story-heavy, which is something I always wanted to see. But much of the draw for me was the platformer stylings. The new Ninja Gaiden was good, so... Hmm... we'll see. ^_^

Well, look what happens right when it's announced that Fox is making an Alien origins movie. What are the odds?!

Looks very, very awesome. Between Sony's stuff and a few Nintendo games I'm gonna be broke throughout 2010.

Super Metriod and Metriod II are my favorties games and I was never too crazy with the Prime games really since I don't like the FPS gameplay that it has. 2-D will always be my main favorite.

Metroid games tend to feature Samus as the sole human being, aside from random corpses you might see lying around (like the guys who got pwnd on Aether, I think it was?).

Yup. It was Aether from Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. The Metroid Prime games with the exception of Metroid Prime 3 were all about exploring new alien worlds in seclusion with little interaction with other characters. Seems like this new one will continue the trend of having supporting characters with prominent roles in the story.

Oh and hot teenage Samus looks great! Way better than those crappy 3D models of Samus done with Texas based Retro Studios. They turned Samus into a semi-chubby cosplayer to a chimp faced woman by the time Prime 3 came out a year ago.

I guess you got to leave it to the Japanese to design and create sexy femme fatales in a videogame. Curse you Retro for failing us not once but thrice! -_- :smirk:

I don't know a thing about Prime 3 (never got meself a Wii), so I wasn't aware there was a "trend". (A one-game trend?)

Somewhere in my heart of hearts, I really wish Samus didn't just get to be another hot blondie... They failed me in the Metroid revival years back, and I still hate them for it.

samus was clunky and robotic in Prime 1.
Prime 2 they tried to make her a bit more curvy, and even have some "girlish" tendencies during some movie sequences, mostly small mannerisms that came out pretty well imo. Prime 2 also included the troopers for a small flashback, which actually had voice overs, although it was very low, but still impressive for a gamecube game.
Prime 3 had the same mannerisms for samus. There were also lots of characters, but mostly in the beginning and end. The majority of the game stayed true to its roots with barren characterless worlds. Although it gave us bosses that we had connections to and actually spoke. It also had an ai giving us directions throughout the game, but that isnt anything new, the same thing was used in fusion.

Although introducing new characters is the new trend for metroid i think its a good move. In 1 and 2, the whole story was conveyed by scanning walls for tidbits of what happened to the chozo home world. Although the story was great, you didnt see it, it happened long before you came, your just there to clean up the mess. Same thing in 2. 3 actually put you in the middle of a scenario that was changing around you.

This new game will be focusing on the origin of samus it seems, which will mean having to have more characters. Truthfully, i would have loved a movie adaptation of her story but another game is probably the safe route. I am concerned at the new playstyle they showed off, mixing fps and 3rd person mode. Also some of the shots looked very cartoony, which i didnt like. The cinematic look great though.

So it's a follow-cam game rather than a fps? It also looks as if it will be more action-oriented than than exploratory.
