Shinji caught in the act?

You know for awhile I've always thought this about that scene where Shinji wanks off to comatose Asuka in End of Eva. Nerv would almost certainly have security cameras in the room, in fact I think at some point either in ep 24 or end of eva (forget which) they actually show a camera feed through a monitor to Asukas hospital room. I'll have to watch them again to make sure later.

Anyway if this is the case that means that Shinji should have been caught in the act so to speak. But I guess nerv had better things to do then watch Asukas room all day which is why he got away with it. Man would it be embarrassing if Shinji was caught in the act...I could just imagine it

Luckily for him, the evidence gets destroyed, along with the rest of the Geofront.

The camera feed of Asuka's hospital room was in Episode 24.

Considering how many cameras Nerv HQ probably has, it would be impossible to monitor everything at all time. Generally, you either have a big wall of monitors, or a rotating camera feed. In either case, its difficult to monitor everything.

Besides, you're thinking too much in real terms. He would only have been caught in the act if it was vital to the plot.

Except for the evidence retained in his own guilty conscience, which Asuka will become aware of, soon enough...

I'd imagine that they'd use the MAGI or one of the attached systems to do that sort of boring monitoring, and only bother with human intervention on a life systems telemetry alarm. With the NERV budget cuts, sedation would be a more attractive (i.e. cheaper) option than 24x7 suicide watch.

No, that wasn't the problem.

This was.

You don't need to massively disrupt the volume of the planet, just the thin shell containing the ecosystem.

The explosion wasn't THAT big. Took out the Izu Peninsula and the adjacent areas, though. I'll figure out exactly what eventually.

Do you think Reis big giant head would be enough to make a nuclear winter? Normally the problem with nuclear winters is that it completely kills off peoples food supply which result in everyone starving to death. But as Shinji and Asuka are the only people on the planet they could probably wait it out with a large stash of food.

I wonder though, if all the happening in the Geofront were being recorded and sent off to offsite backups all over the world. Kind of a record of the history of humanity if the worst happened. That might explain at least why everyone on the bridge bothered to keep monitoring the situation when it was obvious nothing they did was going to matter after the next ten minutes. Or maybe they were just that professional!

Not likely, as the type 666 firewall was blocking acess to the outside.

Not when you're doing it right by their bedside when they're in the hospital and sedated after attempting suicide.

Any suitable messy energy release will do - e.g. the eruptions of Mt Tambora in April 1815, that indirectly led to the writing of Frankenstein and The Vampyre.

The Nuclear tag was pertinent in the '80s when the likelihood of Ronnie Raygun pushing the big red button on his astrologer's say-so was scaring the bejasus out of most everyone. That it could be deduced that the effects could be more than emulated by the somewhat smaller amounts of energy likely to be liberated in a full-out nuclear exchange was enough to hang the "nuclear" tag on the phenomenon for a good political reason.
