Personally I think it's Asuka, tho I know some would beg to differ. I'm curious as to peoples opinion.

Why does there have to be one at all...?

Well, if you really need an "answer", figure it out this way: Calculate the sum of the screentime each of the three female leads gets. Whoever wins is your "lead". (Though would GNR go towards Rei's total and Eva-02 towards Asuka's?)

Screen Time would go to Asuka.

And my vote would go to Asuka. A lot goes between her a Shinji in EoE. Misato is just there to get shot. Rei is there to get rejected by Shinji.

Fair point that there doesn't HAVE to be, but if you were going to peg one of them to be, I'm just curious. Wonder if its worth trying to extend the question into the series.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Great and All Powerful/Knowing Yui-sama. EGF is a cult for her, after all. So, it's either her or fem-Kaworu.

um...I seriously think attention was evenly divided between Misato, Rei, and Asuka.....arguably, arguably, Asuka got the most attention, and Misato was kind of supporting...but really I don't think you can say one was the biggest in just EoE

I largely agree with the idea that there isn't one. If there was, I think it would be between Asuka and Misato as they're explored more and are given more depth as "people".

Rei and Yui-sama are obviously incredibly vital, but as "characters" in the traditional sense I think they're given less importance than the aforementioned others (although the line is much finer for Rei).
