Thoughts of the Noob. Whole Series. (NO SPOILERS)

Okay, so I am watching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time. And, I am going to record my thoughts on each thing that happens. So, I'm going to post all my things here (on this exact post) as I make them AND within the thread itself ((so... most likely, my most recent one will be at the end of this post and at the end of the thread **or close**)) That way, you who want to respond to my questions/comments/thoughts, you can without having to edit out EVERYTHING from EVERY episode. (also, i'm splitting the series into the different arcs. :) have fun learning from the eyes of the newest noob!! ;p)

I will update when I watch each episode.

Episode 1. Act 1.

1. The opening song... I've heard worse. But, seeing as it is and older anime, I won't object too much.

2. about 2 minutes of the way into the movie... the noise.. oh god... WHAT IS THAT NOISE!!?!?!?!? It's.... a buzzing... like... cicadas??? or... something... Usually, it is played while showing telephone poles... BUT WHAT IS IT!??!?!?!?!?!??

3. Oh! How cute! His voice is so pretty! Smile *huggles pretty Shinji's voice* Smile

4. nice pic of whats-her-face. (I've seen this part before... I remember him on the phone ;p).. haha, the arrow pointing to her cleavage. ;p nice nice.

5. blue haired girl! (is this, like, the first foreshadowing of the fact that the anime is messed up?)

6. Oh wow... angels are even uglier than I first thought... ew...

7. HAHA nice explosions there... big white circles. ;p

8. oh!! But it's face!!! kawaii!! Smile The angel's face when it turns its head and blinks!! : )))

9. Well, they REALLY dislike angel's... seeing as the guy snaps his pen in half when saying that they need to stop "the target" at all costs...

10. ... was he against her boob?? (when the dark haired lady is looking out of the car window with the binoculars.) haha he looked a bit uncomfortable. ;p

11. Ikari-kun?? Interesting honorific for him... used by those old guys... (him = Shinji's dad)

12. Back-up pilot?? So, they had one, but now they don't?



Episode 1. Act 2.

1. How is his father a "tough customer?"

2. What is a geo-front?

3. If she doesn't want to wear a skirt in that place, then why is she?

4. ew... Ritsuko's eyebrows... are large... and dark... *hides away*

5. Third Child??? Who are the First and Second Child(s??? (ren??))

6. Neither Shinji or his dad are lovable according to Mitsuko... how is that so???

7. Hahaha, I like how she says, "0.0000000000001 **or whatever the number was*" and uses reireireireireireireireirei... but when she says, "It's not zero!" she uses "zero". ;p nice.

8. DADDY!!! well... he's remembering bad memories...

Episode 1. Act 3.

EPISODE 2. ACT 2.


1. The sound made when the buildings begin rising makes me think of Silent Hill... Sad

2. ... it says Tokyo-3... but she sounds like she says Tokyo-shi... as in Tokyo-4.... ??? Am I just mistaken??0

3. oooooo how cute!! "...ta-tadaima..." "Okairinasai!!!!!"

4. woah!! ALCOHOLIC ON THE LOOSE!! ;p

Episode 2. Act 3.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I <3 the EVA!!!!!! :p : )))))))))) It's sooooo pretty!!! long abdomen, beautiful helmet, strong arms and legs... *dies in the beauty* It's so... so... beautiful. : ) I LOVE IT!! : )

2. Okay, yes the ending is bad... It makes this seem like a crappy 1920's movie...

Episode 3 (san!! ;p). Act 1.

1. Okay... so... I like the opening animation! ;p (but... not necessarily the song, still... yeah...)

2. OH! Did I mention I <3 Eva armour?? ;p ;p

3. Oh... he seems... brainwashed... :( poor Shinji

4. Are they taking advantage of his personality (disorders?). ?

5. O.O woah... the house is CLEAN!! ;p

6. Burnable garbage??

7. Poor Shinji... no friends... no phone calls... *sniffle* *calls him* I LOVE YOU!!! MAKE LOVE TO KAWORU WHEN YOU MEET HIM!!! ;p

8. AHhahaha. all the young kids are gone but that old fart is still there... I guess he doesn't care if he dies or not. ;p

9. Isn't the whole second impact a lie??? or... something??

EPISODE 3. ACT 2.

2. Rei... kinda scares me... I don't like her...

3. Why are the buildings retractable?? Why do they put them up?? and then just put them back down??? What is the point?

4. ... woah... there's a scene where Tokyo-3 is ... shown as a reflection in water??? and, well, it makes me think of Revolutionary Girl Utena and the upside down castle thing. :) oh... I like that anime, too. good yaoi pairings. :)

5. Wait... the 4th angel is... a giant purple bug??? wtf??

6. hahah that one guy (the blonde old dude...) said exactly what I was thinking haha. "cause the people were shooting at the angel and I was like, "Uh... that's pointless, dipshits." and then he said, "they're just wasting taxes..." haha lol

7. So... they're just going to mess everything up... right?? (Kensuke and his friend...) *sigh* stupid stupid boys.

8. What is an AT-field??

9. Stupid faggots!!! Don't they think that they should train him in a way that he won't know what the angel does??? *sigh* of course he's going to be messed up when he gets pushed down when he's used to being able to shoot and kill/destroy/whatever the fake angels!! *sighs again*

EPISODE 3. ACT 3.

EPISODE 4. ACT 1.

1. Okay... in the opening... the red thing... an angel from Isaiah?? Or... close to it? Does this anime have ties with the Bible?
Isaiah 6:2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.
In the picture... It looks sort of like that, except with 12 wings...

2. The opening, again... the blue tree like object?? right after the winged creature... some of the branches seem to read Sephiroth.

3. Why is Shinji running away after all his whispers of "Don't run away." and what not?

4. What is his listening to? He must really like tracks 25 and 26.



Episode 4. Act 2.

1. Personally, I think that Misato is rather attractive. She has long legs, dark long hair, a pretty face...

2. Kensuke (right?) is roleplaying, heh, I do that all the time *hey.. a connection!* Roleplay is "da shit". It is so amazing. Helps the time pass quickly

3. Hey, Kensuke smiled when he called out Shinji's name (last name). I think that's a bit sweet. It gives some sort of either polite-ness or care.

4. Why is the episode called Hedgehog's Dilemma?

5. imouto! I learned that word yesterday! Now I am happy because I heard it when I wasn't reading the subs and I knew what it meant! :)

6. That's interesting what Shinji said. At Kensuke's statement of wanting to pilot an Eva, Shinji replys with, "You better not. I think your mother would be worried. A slight foreshadow? (I know about the mother's souls and stuff...)

7. I am a bit fond of Touji's accent. It gives him that "tough" feeling.

8. What do cicadas have to do with telephone poles?

9. He started to cry. He must be... in such despair... Especially after having Misato blow up at him like that. Did that affect him like it is because he actually thought of her as... uh... someone "on his side" or something like that?



Episode 4. Act 3.

1. Poor Misato, thinking that Shinji is gone.

2. Oh, when she realizes that he's still there, the look on her face.

3. I can see where Shinji/Misato comes from. The way that they stare at one another for that amount of time.

4. "ta-tadaima..." "Okairi nasai!"



Episode 5. Act 1.

1. "your honest eyes show that you haven't realized your fate" means... (my thoughts, perhaps?? Please correct me): Uh... Shinji = ... innocence? Therefore, ... seeing as he's a pilot of an Eva... duh he's going to not end out well... so, the fact that he still has "honest eyes" means that he won't make it?

2. Why, in the opening song, is Shinji's eva shown with 12 wings? isn't that almost opposite of what it's supposed to be since it's against the angels? Or... is it more of: since the "angels" are actually spelled/written with different kanji than biblical angels are written with, that means that they are just... posing as biblical angels? Therefore, the evas are the real angels but, no one views them as such?

3. "You have the wings to fly into the distant future" ... But... the "distant" future is bad, right? seeing as they become one being... or whatever.

4. Who is denying their memory? (lyrics from song)

5. Hold up the sky? Is he the one who become the... basis of everything?? (that's probably not the correct word)

6. Why is Rei so important to Gendo? Who is she to him? Is he in love with her or does he just want something from her? Or is she the "key" persay for something he needs/wants?

7. I love Misato! She just puts it right out there, exactly how it is without even hesitating. "When you say 'nothing' with such a face, you look to me like you're saying, 'Think about me. Please, worry about me.'"

8. Shinji isn't like other boys... he just want to be Rei's friend! (my theory is true, Shiro!!)

9. Balthazar?



EPISODE 5. ACT 2

1. Ritsuko really bothers me... ick... brown eyebrows... mole... ew...

2. Why is it so dirty? Is it because Rei is always in the hospital? Or is it because she doesn't feel the need to clean? (I know that she doesn't have any parents)

3. Glasses... um... Gendo's?

4. Heh... awkward!! Wow... what a chain reaction... she's naked, he's wearing the glasses, he looses balance, the bag catches on her underwear drawer, he lands on top of her covered in her bras. Fun.

5. I see he didn't start wanking off after seeing Rei's boobs.

6. Does Rei connect her bra in the front and then turn it around? (That what it looked like she was in the middle of doing.)

7. Does she have no shame? Does her mind not understand immorality? (er... that might not be the correct word)

8. Well, I see she has a thing for Gendou.. Shinji probably feels like shit... seeing as he already embarrassed her (or he feels like he did) and now the man who has hurt him all his life is being defended by a girl he doesn't know and who now thinks of him as crap for being mistreated by Gendou!! wow.




EPISODE 5. ACT 3.

1. Oh! I've seen this scene before. With Rei putting on her suit.

2. Why is her unit a cyclops?

3. What are the scenes behind her when she "came back"?

4. Did they choose not to put out Unit 00 becaue they don't know if it'll loose control?

5. Why is he able to feel the pain? Shouldn't they be able to create an eva where you don't have to FEEL what happens to the eva? Or just LIGHTLY feel it? That way you can control yourself better.

6. What the hell was that thing? So...? Fuyutsuki was wrong (saying it was the 5th angel...)

7. What a beautiful scream!



EPISODE 6. ACT 1

1. I made my own sort of eva-ish creation... It's much more beautiful than an actually eva.

2. Shinji can be quite pretty when he smiles... (like he does in that one scene at the end of the opening) It looks nice.

3. Wow... I've never seen a nose bleed on someone who didn't just see something perverted. Why was his nose bleeding?

4. Mitsuko seems actually a bit happy with some of the answers she recieves from people...

5. Didn't Shinji wake up like that the last time he was in his eva suit?




EPISODE 6. ACT 2.

1. Shinji has a pretty chest. ;p Why is he so embarrassed about showing off himself half-naked?

2. What does Kensuke's dad do?

3. They are VERY underground!! (reminds me of Resident Evil...)

4. That is a LOT of power...

5. How large IS the diamond thing's range?






EPISODE 6. ACT 3.

1. He is a very emotional boy..

2. That was a good episode. I like episode 6. :) It was nice. That last scene was touching.

I think western and eastern animation have been merging for a long time. Don't forget that anime was originally inspired by American cartoons.

1) "Color symbolism" is a big point of contention. There's a lot in there that works, but I don't know if it was intentional or not. The choice of purple for Shinji's Eva is one of those things.

2. They aren't going anywhere.

3. Ahhhh, you know so little yet... But this is a good thing actually!

4. I guess I never really thought of that. I'd watch trying to discern who the bad guys are. Not so easy in NGE.

5. I don't get this one.

One note to OP: I genuinely think that NGE is best experienced the first time without analyzation - just let it wash over you. But analyzation is what makes repeat viewings and discussions so much fun.

Zero budget and a lot of genius... What greatness can be done! I love the TV finale if for no other reason than there's NOTHING else like it in anime anywhere. They work on so many levels, and there's so much subtext that those episodes introduce to the series that I think what they represent and accomplished are perhaps much greater than what they actually are.
