Daylight Savings Time

I like DST because I get to waste an hour of my life and not feel guilty about it. Because TECHNICALLY, that hour never existed. It's kind of like the International Waters of the Ocean of Time.
And boy did I just make a deal with the pirates...

The need to measure the age-old concepts of "before", "now", and "after", which was probably necessitated by the fundamental change of society after the invention of the plow, requiring one to know when to sow and when to harvest. Later, things like navigation and observation based sciences, required a finer gradient of measurement, promoting the innovation of different, and better, time pieces. Fortunately, with the discovery that space-time bends, we're all moving at the same relative velocity and are exposed to the same gravitational forces so we can still keep a relatively accurate measure of the gradient.

I've seen so many changeful years, / to Earth I am a stranger grown: / I wander in the ways of men, / alike unknowing and unknown: / Unheard, unpitied, unrelieved, / I bear alone my load of care; / For silent, low, on beds of dust, / Lie all that would my sorrows share. - Robert Burns' Lament for James

EU clocks went a week ago. And I really hate it now it's dark before I leave work.
Really, it's time to decamp to New Zealand for the next 6 months. If only...

Going home in the dark was the first time I realised I was in that state too, and had to get that fixed.

That extra hour made it so I have to watch out for deer crossing the road at dawn as I go to work again. [sarcasm]I can't tell you how much joy that brings me. [/sarcasm]

When I first read that, the scene in that Chris Farley movie where he and David Spade run over a deer and they think it's dead and they put it the back of the car but it wakes up and hilarity ensues.

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity
