Its a cut that wasn't in the final version that was actually animated, but was planned in the script, and sketched out in the storyboards.

Actually, sitting back and looking at it, this scene shows that when Touji isn't around, Kensuke can be a thoughtful sort of chap - generally a "good egg" (to use some rather archaic terminology) behind the gear-head façade.

Makes me think that one odd couple might not be so odd a few years down the line.

When Toji isn't around? :gets confused:

Well, boys and girls, the #04 pages should be all up to date now. I did a bit of tweaking to prior episodes that probably no one is going to notice, too.

Shin-seiki, I didn't add the stuff about Rei's rainbow colors yet... Next episode, I think.
