[NGE] Strange manga difference...

Yui disappeared during a contact experiment with unit-01, where she was absorbed into the Eva, correct?
In the manga vol.8, a flashback scene depicts the contact experiment that took place, but it was unit-00 that was being tested instead of unit-01. Was this just a typo, or is something else happening?
The purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning, and inhibit clarity. With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog!

Well, I broke out my manga, both volume 5 & 8 where that scene is depicted, and the Eva Unit that Yui is in is very characteristicly like Eva Unit 01. It looks just the way Eva Unit 1 ordinarily looks minus the armor.

Don't know what else to say. :?

'Tis what I thought at first, but Fuyutsuki actually states in vol.8 "When we got unit-00 open, she had vanished without a trace."
I tempted to dismiss it as a typo, but there's always a chance...

Ok, now I know what you're referring to, I didn't read over Fyutsuki's lines at first. He does say Unit-00 in the Viz edition. However, I would like to offer an alternate translation for you.

Bochan_Bird of Eva Otaku wrote:Fuyutsuki: Why is there a child here?
Akagi: It's Director Ikari's son.
Fuyutsuki: Ikari, this is not a daycare. Today is...
Yui: I'm sorry, Professor Fuyutsuki. I begged to bring him along.
Fuyutsuki: Yui, today is your important experiment.
Yui: That's why -- I want to show my child the bright future of humankind.
Fuyutsuki: Yui...
Who would have thought those would be the last words from
Ikari Yui. An irregular accident erased her from this world. And from that day forth,
Ikari also changed.

Viz wrote:Fuyutsuki: Why is there a child here?
Akagi: He's Director Ikari's son.
Fuyutsuki: Ikari! This is not a daycare center. Today is...
Yui: I'm sorry, it was my idea.
I brought him professor.
Fuyutsuki: But, Yui...
...this is the critical experiment!
Yui: Exactly!
I want him to see...
...the bright future ahead for humanity.
Fuyutsuki: Yui...
Seconds later...
...all sensors went dead.
Those had been her last words.
When we got Unit-00 open, she had vanished without a trace.
And Ikari...
...was changed.

Part of the problem with translating anime and manga is that you have to translate, and then you have to adapt it a little to make it sound better, as sometimes it turns out very atypical of the way a normal english speaker would. I looked over the Japanese edition, and couldn't find either a unit number or "zerogoki" as unit zero is reffered to in Japanese. And given that in Bochan's literal translation, a unit isn't even named, I'm inclined to believe that the Viz manga is somewhat adapted from the literal translation. The reference to Unit-00 is most likely a typo. I find that more likely than Sadamoto making a very obvious flub

Now I know why Tolkien never finished his work. Continuity is a pain in the ass.
