Offical hi-res trailer:
http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/07/09/jj-abrams-cloverfield-1-18-08-trailer-officially-hits

All I'm going to say is that I refuse to speculate or believe anything anyone says and have no expectations for this film. There is no evidence to support it being Cthulhu, Godzilla, Voltron, Evangelion or anything original at all. Despite what people say, it isn't even confirmed that it will be filmed in a hand-held style. The teaser might be depicting an event from the film, some backstory/a prologue or it might even get changed and not be included at all.

Discuss.

I am tired of NYC. They should blow up a different city for a change. And if this really does turn out to be Godzilla or some other giant monster, I will be very disappointed.

When has a giant monster ever blown up new york city? The American godzilla ran around all the buildings when he should have been knocking them over, seriously whatever is in that prevue does almost as much damage in those few minutes as the american godzilla did in his entire movie. Hopefully whatever is in this movie manages to actually do some damage unlike all the other dissapointing american giant monsters.

Whatever it turns out to be, it's piquing my interest already. Being a fan of Bad Robot Productions' works, I have a feeling it's gonna be good... even by just a little trailer.

QFMFT! What about Seattle, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Kansas City, Nashville, Oklahoma City or hell even New Orleans?! There is oh so very much MOAR to America than NY and LA!
And if this really does turn out to be Godzilla or some other giant monster, I will be very disappointed.
QFMFT AGAIN! All I ask for is MOAR originality, damn Hollywood dolts!

It probably won't be godzilla but definatly will be a giant monster of some sort. After seeing the prevue and expecting something that isn't a giant monster is like expecting a bunch of basketball players to start playing baseball for some reason.

Anyway, based on the prevue, I think we might see something that would be a first for American made giant monster movies. A giant monster that actually does smash up the city and not just scuff it up a bit like Gino did! If that happens in this movie I'm not complaining.

I seriously don't think it's eva or voltron.Remember that the american
godzilla left off with a single hatchling surviving,so my moneys on a
new godzilla...not saying I want a new godzilla.

I would think Mr.Abrams would do and know better.

The roar seriously reminded me of Eva when I heard it. God, I love that roar.

Anyhow, I knew it was a matter of time until someone started a topic on here. I was just a bit sheepish to mention it. 1-18-08.com has something to do with it, as does slusho.jp. A lot of people think ethanhaaswasright.com and ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com have something to do with it, but Abrams denounced the two sites.....though I like to believe that he was just trying to throw people off :P.

This has interested me for a while, and I am seriously looking forward to seeing it come out. /sigh, if only it was something to do with Eva....but nothing about the live action movie is official yet.

What'd be damn funny is if that really was eva and all the studios were just pretending that no progress was being made on the movie to take everyone by suprise. Well we could dream, but to be honest thats even less likely then the unlikely possibility that this is a godzilla sequal (Gino was much too wimpy to cause such a huge explosion)

The quote from the trailer: "I saw it! It's Alive! It's Huge!"

That just makes me wonder....but Im still hoping for Eva.

Everything that we know about this movie (set for January release, main casts consists mainly of actors in their 20s, being shot entirely with hand-held cameras, not a remake of any other motion picture) combined with everything we know about the live action Eva movie (they haven't done squat so far, predominantly 14 year old protagonists) seems to indicate that this is probably (ie definitely) not Evangelion related.

The facts are definitely against me, but oh well.
As for the "Entirely shot by hand held cameras" part, that would get quite annoying very quickly.
