What the heck is Asuka saying in German in episode 22?
I tried searching for this, but I've heard that what Asuka is saying in episode 22 on the phone to her stepmother (in the English dub as Tiffany Grant can actually handle German) is supposed to be an in-joke or something. What is the translation of what Asuka is saying in German?

For example the the sentance, i am very popular with the boys... you would translaste it as; ich bin sehr popular bei den jungs and not mit den jungs. It all sounds very bablefish to me. Also, her accent is american.
ok translastion of german:
hello. hello rudie
un hun...
i am very popular with the boys
yes, yes, never
he is very <uninteligable word>, yes, yes.
well, that is very cool.

well is that a translation of the Japanese versions's "Gelman" or German Engrish whatever you call it, or is it of Tiffany Grant's German version?

I've got episodes with the german stuff translated. I'll write it down when I'm at that computer, but I don't know how accurate the translation is. :P

Auch, wenn ich gehts keine lerne.
Ich werde jetzt ins Bett gehen.
Aufwiederhören.
Gute Nacht!
MDWigs wrote:I did a (partial) translation a while ago. I based some of it off another translation I found, becuase my ability with spoken German is a lot worse than my ability with it written down.
Format: Germans words (English translation)
Asuka : Hallo, Mutter. (Hello, mother.)
Asuka : Wir haben uns lange nichts gehoert. (We haven't talked in awhile).
Asuka : Danke schön... (Thank you very much)
Cue Shinji listening to Asuka talking to her mum: "Listening to her speaking an unfamiliar language, I feel as if Asuka were a stranger."
Asuka : Ah ha! Niemals! (Ah ha! Never!)
Asuka : Er ist ein sauber Mensch. (He's a nice guy)
Asuka : Ja. Ja. Wirklich? (Yes. Yes. Really?)
Asuka : Das ist aber toll. Fantastisch! (That is great. Fantastic!)
Cue Shinji again being all Angst(not the straight German translation either) ridden: "Mother"
Asuka : Auch, wenn ich gehts keine lerne. (Also, when I got I don't learn anything)
Asuka : Ich werde jetzt ins Bett gehen. (I might go to bed now)
Asuka : Gute Nacht. (Good night)
Also IIRC there is a bit that goes in there somewhere where Asuka asks her mother if she has to introduce "him" (i.e. Shinji, who answered the pone), and her mother asks if he is her boyfriend, to which Asuka replies, "Are you kidding?!? Of course not! He's not really sociable>". Typical Asuka . I think Miyamura understood her character very well.

The Platinum Booklets are (usually) your friend:

In her phone conversation with her stepmother in Part A, Asuka speaks German. The contents of which are roughly as follows: "Hello? Mother? We just finished eating. What about you? You want me to introduce him? Please, of course not. He's not sociable. Uh-huh, uh-huh. Really, wow, I didn't know. That's great. I don't have anything to say, either. Talk to you again later. I'm hanging up, okay? Well, goodnight!" This dialogue was not written in the script, and was left up to Yuko Miyamura, who plays Asuka.

Babelfish gives sauber as "clean". I took the conversation to be something akin to the following:
Mother: Is that the messy boy you live with? (Or words to that effect)
Asuka: No way! He's a neat freak! (Or word's to that effect)
Interesting about the additional dialogue, but I'm not sure if there was room for her to say all that. We need more sauce for that goose.

The speaker messes up one indirect pronoun, but it's "einsamer Mensch", which means "lonely human". Hm.
And, just for your amusement, in the end, she says "Vater", "father" instead of "mother". Ha, so much 'bout that, Asuka.

Forsook his good lady for ages,

With a good book instead,
Or, preferably, one of the pages.

Possibly "solitary" would be a better rendering -- it's more likely that she would comment that he keeps himself to himself.

I would assume so. There aren't all that many people with whom she interacts that would merit the description.
