EVA 0.1: YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE
So, I'm sure I'm just grasping at straws here, but Let's consider the title of the first movie.
If not is in parentheses, what is the significance? Not is conditional?
IS this talking about Shinji, who sees himself as alone, and him forming relationships with people, or does it mean humanity, and how we think we're alone, but, surprise!, here come the Angels...

I believe in the director of Eva 1.11.

Between the two, I would guess the former.
Awesomely Shitty

-On EMF, as a thread becomes longer, the likelihood that fem-Kaworu will be mentioned increases exponentially.
-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

Eh? Movie title was released? When was this?
Well, Anno's titles often reference great works of sci-fi and other media. This appears to be the reference here.
EDIT: Oh, it's from the April Newtype article.

Whoever the, "You," is, the title does give a clue about what Anno plans to show us in this new films. The whole title says that, "You are not Alone." Basically whoever is the "you," in the film, they must think that they are not alone, but discovers that they are alone. This could be one of Anno's fears in the film. Even though he has a wife, he still fears that he is alone.

Or maybe he's just being cryptic for the sake of being cryptic. Yoooouuu aaarrreee (noooooot) alllllooooooooooneeee......
He was warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, the fox and the innocent, chivalrous, ruthless, less than a god, more than a man. There is no measuring Muad'Dib's motives by ordinary standards. In the moment of his triumph, he saw the death prepared for him, yet he accepted the treachery. Can you say he did this out of a sense of justice? Whose justice, then? Remember, we speak now of the Muad'Dib who ordered battle drums made from his enemies' skins, the Muad'Dib who denied the conventions of his ducal past with a wave of the hand, saying merely: "I am the Kwisatz Haderach. That is reason enough."

THe title gives me goosebumps
Can't wait to see it! Few more months left........
Anyways, maybe it could be bout Rei? I think she was the character who was alone most of the time in the series. Shinji at least had the attention. Then again you never know, it could be Kaworu? Especially since we really didn't get to know him very well in the series.

Copy/Pasta from EML:
So, in terms of the movie title, what do you think it symbolizes? Shinji-kun? Everybody? (<---my current stance on it.)
The fact (Not) is like this makes me think it's ironic, people ARE alone even if they don't want to be. (Just a thought.)
Reference to that old Michael Jackson, huh? It's possibly, but I was under the impression Anno-sensei reference only Sci-fi works? (Obviously not, but...)

I'll share this feeling with you.
Doesn't it hurt? See?
Doesn't your heart ache?
Rei:
Hurt? No, you're wrong. It's...
...loneliness?
Yes, it's loneliness, isn't it?
Rei VOICE:
Loneliness? I don't understand.
Rei:
You hate being alone, don't you?
There are so many of us, and yet, you hate being alone.
That is what loneliness is.
("You" being "any ol' person".)

But you'll also never be able to forget your loneliness.
Humans can never banish their loneliness for good,
because being human means being alone.
But humans are able to go on with their lives
because they're able to forget it every so often.

Well, since Armisael uses the Reflect attack on Rei's explanation for "Loneliness", the audience is free to come up with something to which to attribute the underlying reasons for Rei's own loneliness. But the main reason I quoted that particular passage is because it ties into the "you're alone and not alone at the same time" dealio.
