As per the title, just a load of random questions.

that magi, why are they designed the way they are? They are computers yet are overflowying with pipes, not a typical computer design.

They were designed and created before the death of (forget her name)'s mother, yet her brain was planted in it, how can you design and create a system which you cannot complete? Why is her brain used?

The eva's, are part robot, part angel, sort of like a terminator, but in the very first episode the head is cut off of eva 1, how do they reattach such a thing, considering it is 'alive'.

Why do the eva's have to sync with a pilot? Surely the pilot is controlling the eva with controls, yet they need to have a clear mind to do this.

why do they always say at least 52 times an episode 'This cant be happening, its impossible!'?

Nerv is underground, but why is there a huge gap between it and above ground? Are they trying to simulate a world underground without it being in a building of sorts?

Well, who knows, but i liked the design, it was very original.

They were designed and created before the death of (forget her name)'s mother, yet her brain was planted in it, how can you design and create a system which you cannot complete? Why is her brain used?

Well, i think that the magi system was supposed to use brains of people to work, but maybe Naoko's brain wasn't supposed to be used, but when she killed herself, maybe somebody (ritsuko?) decided that her brain would be part of the magi computer inside Casper.

The eva's, are part robot, part angel, sort of like a terminator, but in the very first episode the head is cut off of eva 1, how do they reattach such a thing, considering it is 'alive'.

They are 100% biologycal beigns, they are clones of Adam, so they are practicly angels. The mechanic stuff that they have, are their armours, that are used for protection of the eva and for control it's power.
In the 1st episode eva01 didn't loose the head, it was traspassed by some energy shot or something... But in episode 19 the eva-02 lose his head, and they can reatach it because the angels and the evas as well have amazing regenerating abilities.

Why do the eva's have to sync with a pilot? Surely the pilot is controlling the eva with controls, yet they need to have a clear mind to do this.

The pilots can control the evas by their thoughts, the controls are just accesories to shoot or something like that.

why do they always say at least 52 times an episode 'This cant be happening, its impossible!'?

This is a classic Evangelion line, priceless :P

Nerv is underground, but why is there a huge gap between it and above ground? Are they trying to simulate a world underground without it being in a building of sorts?

Nerv is in the geofront, to see more about this, go to this topic and you can see all the planes:

The design is a bit atypical of computer design, however those pipes could serve various purposes and functions, such as cooling.

The brain on Naoko Akagi was not used in the Magi. Whether the brains were created, or harvested by other means is never adressed. However, her personality of transplanted onto the Magi computers. It is refered to as a Personality OS. The purpose of adding personality was so that the Magi would have varying views and would at times deliberate. Consider it a form of democracy. But just prior to her death, the Magi had in fact been completed.

The Evangelions are largely biological, the mechanical components are largely surface level. They are technically cybernetic, but not to a greate degree. Eva Unit 01 didn't lose its head in Episode 2, the armor on the head simply fell off. Eva Unit 2 however lost its head in episode 19. While the Evas are biological beings, they do possess regenerative qualities, which is how they are that resiliant.

The Eva is not some robot filled with gears and servos, its a bilogical being with muscles, sinews, and a mind of its own. The mind, or soul, is what generates the AT Field. If you eliminate it, you take away the Eva's greatest defense. The syncronization is absolutely necessary.

Sack Man wrote:why do they always say at least 52 times an episode 'This cant be happening, its impossible!'?

It serves two purposes really, first being that when you watch the show and you hear people yelling out how something is impossible, it familiarizes you with the laws and rules of the world the characters live in. Secondly, its bridge chatter, they have to report their observations. If everyone just kept their mouths shut, none of them would know exactly what's going on.

Well, first of all, it was orginally a giant open sphere. They state that 89% was filled. That's a pretty big hole to fill, I would say that it could just stay semi filled, so long as they were able to fit everything below the surface that they needed to. But, its an underground shelter area, as we can see in episode 19, when people retreat into the GeoFront for shelter. The idea is that the GeoFront is an entirely self sufficient colony. In the event that the entire surface were obliterated, I believe the GeoFront could survive for a while. Its sketchy at best, but its similar to a BioDome.
