Adult Character Roles?

Does anybody think the adult characters in Evangelion (Misato, Ritsuko, Kaji, Gendo, etc) will play as important a role and have as much screentime as the pilots in this project?

I'm curious what people think cause as far as the products and popular marketing for EVA goes it really seems to neglect the adult characters. Shinji, Asuka, Rei, and Kaworu (why so much Kaworu?) dominate the marketing of EVA.

Hell, if I remember right in the manga version the adults characters have very little screen-er-page time. I've only read the manga once but I don't remember Ritsuko and Misato playing such a promiment role in the manga like they do in the anime (in the anime I think those two might have more screentime than Rei and Asuka- and they are wondeful characters!). Only adult I do remember doing something from the manga was Kaji.

Sure in the new films I expect Gendo will still play a huge part with his limited dialogue and Misato will be there cause Gainax needs that demographic of fan service.
BUT---
Since these movies will have less running time than the series does that mean such overlooked characters like Fuyutsuki and Ritsuko (who is never really featured in Evagear) will become simplified and put to the wayside for more Kaworu fangirlness and more Rei'isms?

My hope is that they keep the same dynamic of the series with both age groups being equally promiment. That's one thing that made EVA for me. Just as much attention was given to the messed up adult characters as it was to the young pilots.

I just hope the Rebuild series doesn't push the adults aside the films can strictly become the Shinji,Rei, Asuka, Kaworu powerhour.
And am I the only one worried with the rumor of more Kaworu? He worked great in the anime for what he was but I don't know if it would work to have him so promiment in the series? I guess I was always more of a Touji loving guy myself than a yaoi fanboy.

Kaworu != yaoi

(why so much Kaworu?)

Because of bishounen looks, mysteriousness, and perceived homoeroticism.

well Asuka, Rei, and Shinji are popular because THEY'RE THE MAIN CHARACTERS!!!...Kaworu is popular because he is Bishounen...

the Adults are not as important to the story as the kids...cept for maybe Misato...in a story about kids...you base all the adults from the kid's point of veiw...right?

Techinally, Misato and Shinji are the "heroes of the story" but yeah, it would be interesting to see how this would be. I personally think it's gonna be more or less same like the anime: only focusing on the adults when the plot calls for it.

Gendo will definitely play a big role.

Without Gendo we lose all of the crazy conspiracies part of the series.

This is what first drove me to EVA, and I hope it becomes a bigger part of the story in Rebuild (more history; more scenes outside of Japan; perhaps they expose some past conspiracies and tie everything together more). I also hope they Gendo the way he is, but perhaps we get to see a little of Gendo how he was with Yui in private, I'd be interested to see how he acts, as I think his character is similar to myself, and I'm curious if that translates over in the relationship with Yui as well.

Misato I'd like to a bit more of her serious side, I liked how her character developed throughout the anime. I also liked how it was used, but perhaps we see the anger inside of her come out a little more. Ritsuko, we only saw a glimpse of her in her private life, I'd like to see her get the "Misato" treament, only not as much and see her non-Nerv character a little more, as her character up until the later episodes we nothing more then "That girl that slims with the EVAs and fixes the MAGI".

Kaji, I liked how his character was, we got to see his personal side, and we got to see he "operated", however I'd like to see more of this. Seeing as he was a "triple agent", Kaji could be a character in Rebuild that leads us to a lot of places that normally EVA wouldn't go, such as how he did with him showing Misato Lilith. He could be the key to showing us the more "inside" parts of EVA, (such as I explained eariler with the history and non-Japan areas).

If the characters are used like this, and they don't waste time, in my own opinion it will make EVA more drawn together and have more realistic characters that you can relate to and care about. Isn't that what EVA is about? Making you care about the characters, then viciously tearing them apart within ten minutes. Indeed..
