Is rebuild a retcon?

Is rebuild a retcon of the original, and if it is: OH MY GODZ NOEEESS. I read somewhere that it would have a completely different plot or something. could someone clear this up for me?

It's not clear from the material so far released and translated quite how much will be new and changed as opposed to new and extra.

If it blatantly contradicts the original series then it's not canon with it, just like the Manga is not canon with the Anime.

It's kind of vague at this point. One thing for certain is that it won't be canon, and it's not a direct remake. It is suposed to be an entirely new production. If it weren't for all of the artwork depicting the old characters, I would be inclined t say that we aren't even certain the original cast will be in the movies.

I refuse to see ReBuild as non-canon, as it is, after all, being directed by Anno. There's things that even didn't happen in the orginal due to the budget that will happen now.

But if Anno makes a happy ending for movie 4, it could cause uber suckage. It wouldn't be the NGE I know.

Huh, it will be a canon of its own if it goes against the series, just like the Manga is its own canon, both can exist as separate entities from the series' main continuity.

If this were Anno's Evangelion of '95 with no budget or technological problems, I would agree. However he's had over 10 years to think about it, and to see where he to take EVA, so it's going to be three of his visions put together, the original series, the original series without the restictions (budget), and the series being altered after having over 10 years to think about it.

In other words, it cannot be cannon unless it's no more then the original series only being altered with the scenes he originally wanted in '95 that couldn't be added, and the series time being shorted to four movies. Isn't going to happen, thus not cannon..

If it's not a brutal and depressing ending, I'm not sure if I'm going to like it. But I'll try to like it for what it is, if it turns out to be some stupid optimistic bullshit, well I've always got End of Evangelion..

Keep in mind, Anno is the same man that watched an EVA maration and stated, "boy, this is very interesting."

I would think he WOULD find it interesting seeing as how HE MADE EVA!!! Unless this is BS, if even Anno is saying stuff like this, anything goes. :roll:

True; but none the less, it was added in a do-over to change the interpretation of that scene. That seems a pretty clear-cut example of the phenomenon.

I would say that, in this particular case, they are simply providing additional information rather than actually changing anything. It sheds light on Asuka's motivations, whereas the audience was given somewhat less limited reign beforehand.

RETroactive CONtinuity meaning something's continued from where it's left off or in the least, it's within the same time-line/canon??

But I thought this wasn't a remake, so how could anything go back and be changed??

I get the feeling that even though it supposedly won't be a continiution, it happens within the same time-line (is canon) with the series and EoE. *shrugs*
