I'm going to make another attempt to get image verification to work. And if that fails, I'm going to use the password protect feature to create what will amount to a simple Eva quiz that new registrants will have to go through in order to get to the forum. For anyone that's watched the series, it ought to be a snap. For automated processes, or for spammers, it shouldn't be worth their time to do the research.

You could make it a single, simple question like "Who's this character" or "hey guys what game is this"

Spambots wouldn't be able to get through it anyway

It's kinda funny, because we have a client that wants us to come up with an "unbeatable" captcha mechanism. Clearly not possible, so I wrote them a simple bot that beat both the captcha images as well as questionaires/multiple choice image discernment. A simple brute force random guessing bot, 30 or so lines of code.

Multiple-choice would let more bots through. Better to stick to fill-in-the-blank and answers that you can only write one way. ("Answers are single-worded. Spelling counts.")

Straight-forward questions:

- Who is the main character? (Shinji)
- What is the name given to the First Angel? (Adam)
- What is Gendo Ikari's organization? (Nerv)
- Who is Shinji's guardian? (Misato)
- What is the Angels' weak point? (Core)
- What is the shape of Misato's pendant? (Cross)
