What do you guys think happened after Third Impact in EoE? Did Asuka and Shinji settle each other's differences and accepted each other for who they are becoming better than what they once were? Can Kaji return? What of Seele and Gendo?. Inputs would be interesting and appreciated.

Since nobody else has said anything yet, here's a related thread from long ago to start the ball rolling.

Shinji went back into Instrumentality and has been existing in a multitude of alternate dreamworld realities since then and has never left.

He created the universes of Girlfriend of Steel, ANIMA, Re-TAKE, Genocide, Advice and Trust, the Sadamoto manga, and the Rebuildverse. Anno could make this reveal in Final as the ultimate commentary on how Shinji, like much of the fandom, has been unable to move on from the original series, continuously obsessing over it and trying to improve on it through semi-canon media and fanfiction. It would be the ultimate statement from him to align with his criticism that NGE was turned into an "object of dependence" among the fanbase.

But of course, it probably won't happen.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996
