Appears we are getting a new Ghost in the Shell series on Netflix in 2020, likely a new season of Sac given the title.

https://www.cbr.com/ghost-in-the-shell- ... flix-2020/

YES, A NEW GHOST IN THE SHELL ANIME IS COMING.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will be directed by Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Kenji Kamiyama. On @Netflix in 2020!

Really hope they keep the animation style the same as the previous 2 seasons.

I don't mind that they try to develop 3D further. Compared to how much the 2D look has degraded in recent years, the industry has made great strides in managing to make 3D look acceptable, and I feel like this work in particular has the potential to be a ground breaker in that regard.

So, I personally don't mind a switch up in animation style. I just hope they manage to make it look good.

I would have to see it in motion before giving an unqualified thumbs-up -- whether it manages to avoid the odd flashes of being suddenly doll-like in speaking or when there are shadows moving over the face.

I just hope it's better than the 3D CG in the opening for GitS:SAC
I mean, I really enjoyed the aesthetic choice as an opening, it also has great art direction. But a whole series? Hm...
Also, the music is phenomenal. And Origa's voice... Rest in Piece. :(

It's around 15 years since they decided to retrofit 3DPDCG to the TV series OP. That's a long time for that sort of technology.

Yeah, but it was the prestige opening to a high-budged show. So the quality far exceeded what the actual show would have looked like. My question is, if technology has caught up sufficiently enough, to produce a whole TV-series on a level above the 3D opening from 15 years ago.

2D has degraded? I must be getting blind.

I should clarify that part of the reason for my annoyance with the option to do this in 3D is that I personally watch anime partly because it's in 2D.

For all I know, this new GITS could turn out to be amazing, but it's not something that interests me at all so long as it his 3D. Even live action adaptations annoy me. They could be excellent, but they're not anime. They're not what I like about anime.

First Teaser - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbc8tdWe6lY

This is only slightly better looking then I feared it would look. (still nowhere near good) They really should have gone with something like the Castlevania series animation style on both this and the Godzilla anime.

Didn't expect that Ghost in the Shell being CG would receive backlash; like of all franchises this makes the most sense to me...

The CGI makeover of the original film didn't get a good response from many fans.

Well, because it doesn't make any sense, like it's just a few scenes which do not harmonize with the look of the rest of the movie.

More trailer.

This kinda flew under the radar for me.
On one hand excited to get an actual sequel to SAC, but on the other, the execution
I dont mind 3dcg per se, but this looks way too pixar-esque to me. Too clean, too kiddy.

Damn, I thought the FLCL sequels looked bad... but this... Like, I wouldn't even mind a 3DGITS, it makes a lot of sense... but the 3D from a show from 2005 looks better, you've got a problem.

I can one up that: Appleseed, 2003. That CGI is better than a lot of things even these days
