I still get confused - is there actually any company that is in a legal position to give/license/sell the rights for the series' English sub and dub?

No one is as far as I know. In fact, I think this is the first time Netflix licensed an anime that fell out of print, so I really don't know how they're gonna navigate this. All of their other anime titles are either in print by other distributors (Fullmetal Alchemist, Gurren Lagann, etc. have US disc releases via Aniplex) or first became available to the US through Netflix itself (Little Witch Academia).

I'll probably chat about this more in the thread for the Netflix release itself.

So anyone think there’s gonna be a New Year’s surprise regarding Final? Or will they do nothing because the movie isn’t due until 2020?

It's tough to say. I definitely think they'll start showing off character art and whatnot at some point in 2019.
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

I expect (hope) another teaser. They were teasing some footage last month like they did a few months before the release of the first teaser.

Hopefully the international subtitle or a release window too.

^So far the teasing is very similar to what they did with 3.0. Since the new calendar says 'Road to 2020' on it, I wonder if they might have some campaign planned like the Journey to X Disney has been doing in the lead up to Star Wars.

I'm curios as to when they drop the shoe... I have a gut feeling there won't be any traditional animation in this.

I think the movie is still going to be mostly 2D animated for a few reasons.
The technology is not there yet, it's a lot more expensive (if I remember correctly a 3DCG animator has a paycheck 10x bigger than a 2D animator), they hired 2D animators for the movie, Mari in the teaser was hand-drawn.

Whaaaaaaaat........?

At most I see the Evas being all CGI (which, 100% CGI Evas would be a first for Anno), but even then I can’t see Anno not picking up pencil and paper himself and giving us a shot or two of the most glorious hand-drawn Japanese animation outside of Studio Ghibli.

Khara has always pushed the Envelope when it comes to 3DCG in Anime - I feel like that's a big reason NTE exist, to fund exactly that.

Is that true? Even for Japan? Wow. Now I'm positive traditional animation will die out completely (maybe with Kyo-ani as last bastion)

I sincerely hope so, his scene in Evangelion Q is one of my favorite in Animation history.

Didn’t Khara’s second Twitter post photos of the keyframes for the Mari animation in the teaser? I seem to remember that happening.

Like, I kinda see where this fear of all cel-shades CGI in Shin Eva comes from. Khara has also been posting some animation tests translating some of the hand-drawn shots to CGI animation. But I think it’s there to have more elaborate crowd shots without outsourcing them to outside companies. This’ll probably be used only for shots like those sweeping camera shots early on in Eva Q, and not actual character animations. The CGI tests that they’ve been posting on Twitter have no faces at all, much less any expressions for them, so it’s most likely for all the background stuff.

How much khara pay animators

View Original PostJoseki wrote:Is it normal that an animator is paid 40.000 yen (370 dollars) while a 3D animator is paid 180.000 yen (1.650 dollars)? There's a huge disparity and a traditional 2D animator is paid well below the poverty line. :uhh:

Also didn't Anno animate the explosions in the space sequence in Q? Or maybe he did both?

If there was a time to drastically change up the style & aesthetic of Evangelion it would have been back in 2007 with You Are (Not) Alone. That was the time & opportunity for Anno & Co to switch things up and go all CG or whatever since it was essentially a brand new start. They didn't.
Final will share the same animation aesthetic and process as the first three. It just will probably be more expressive and bigger than ever.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I just seem to remember him requesting multiple retakes on the CGI elements of that scene, drastically changing the camera angles and what not. That seems to be how Anno works. If there's something specific he wants to happen in the shot, he'll animate it with pencils and hand-drawn keyframes. (Instances of Anno's team reanimating a hand-drawn shot or scene for the home-video releases don't even involve changing camera angles or anything.) But he'll give himself room for creative changes with the CGI process. Anno is far too precise a story-telling to not want a fair amount of the film hand-drawn, overseeing the creating of each frame of image in some fashion.

Since this is a half Toei affair.... Maybe new teaser for the Dragonball movie.....Maybe not, but a thought.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Next year, folks.
Man was I bummed out when the 2020 thing was revealed. Uncharacteristic of me, I'd say. A gut reaction. At least we can now say the film comes out next year.
Which could in theory still mean I won't watch it in over two years (imagine a cinema release near the end of 2020, with a bluray coming out in 2021), I'm hopeful it'll be less than that.
The good thing is it'll be worth it.

I do get distracted with other things obviously, I'm that type of person, always obsessed with something. But the curiosity and anticipation I feel for this film is just too strong. It is almost bad anticipation. Like the one you feel before Christmas as a kid lol.

I've thought a lot about it, and I think even if the movie had a theater release near where I live I wouldn't go. This is something I want to experience at home. So I gotta wait for the bluray. How I'll avoid spoilers for all that time I don't know. It's a little anxiety inducing :I

My prediction for when we get new whatever...hopefully we'll get little things throughout the year, but I think it'll be june again. Next time it'll be big, probably. Seeing Mari was awesome, but seeing the classic cast and whatever their appearance is for this movie will be on another level. Trailers I expect a few months before release. Which if we're lucky could be in 2019.

Any thoughts on what the dates "2020, 21, etc." meant that were on Anno's last lamp drawing?
SPOILER: Show
3.0+1.0 is actually three consecutively released movies. That would change things, if the NGE resembling 1.0 and 2.0 were less than half of Rebuild. It's not gonna happen, just throwing a crazy idea out there.

And is there any reason to not expect the film in summer (Olympics)?
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"

Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

Nothing personal but it has a obvious reason why it took so long.

And it's because of 3.0.

The happy man in me is already tortured and dead to ever care for a better ending in Final.

The only thing that makes me ever happy about Final is that it ends Rebuild.

Any Sequel and Reboot would be only pointless. And even Anno would rather want to be free from his curse through making Eva.

If anything should be ever done with Eva after Final, then Anno and Eva as we know it should be left alone for good before it gets worse.

Any new Eva can be treated as any Anime and any Mecha Anime that isn't as fucked up as Annos Eva and Rebuild.

And No. I don't want for Anno to make more Eva in 21 and 22. I'm scared of this prediction.

In Shinjis place I rather want Asuka to torture me, than that she and others are suffering because of me.

Asuka Langley Sohryu/Shikinami is Frank Castle/The Punisher.

And Shinji Ikari is Billy Russo/Jigsaw.

You don't need to feel sympathy for me.

I only want that people here know why I'm scared.

I already have crossed a line here.

I carry out things right to the end. No. Matter. What.
