Need help with how I'll watch the movie

I hope it is OK for this to be its own thread, and it might be of interest for other people.

So, as everybody else here I'm obsessed with Eva. I want the first viewing of this last movie to be perfect. And I'm actually kinda stressed out about this.

-The first way to see this film will be to live in Japan and go to the cinema obviously. I don't see myself going there and I wouldn't understand a thing.
Around this time camrips will show up. Can't watch the movie like this. Also I live in Germany, piracy is a tricky thing here. And I wouldn't want to pirate it anyways.
Well, I'd need to wait for

-The blu-ray release. Not a problem actually. I can wait and be careful with spoilers, the timeframe will hopefully be short like with 3.0.
However, I don't want to be disconnected from Eva news.
So I remember this non-spoiler policy with 3.0 on this forum. Did it go until the BD-release or am I misremembering? And were spoilers in the titles prohibited? (It was cool that there was this policy, I hope the same thing is done).
Also, pirating a Japanese BDrip would still be pirating. Waiting for a release in a language I speak, no thanks...
So...

-Is it possible to buy the Japanese BD (which I would gladly do) use it in PAL territory (the laptop being the prefered option) and embed internet subtitles? I guess I would need to rip the movie myself.
So my questions are if you can rip and/or reproduce a Japanese BD in pal territory somehow and the question above with the spoiler policy. Does anybody have experience with this?
Thanks!

I'm right there with you. Usually Funimation will do a theatrical run of the movie before even the Japanese Blu-ray comes out. That's how I saw Evangelion 2.0 prior to the DVD release. I don't know if they do anything in Europe, though. Maybe Manga Ent. might run something like that?

At least in Spain and Germany I think this hasn't been the case. :(

I don't know if Eva is popular enough in Germany, in Spain it might be, but they don't want to risk it maybe.

You can rip the Japanese Blu-Ray with MakeMKV if you have a Blu-Ray reader on your PC and then search for subs on the internet, but ripping copy-protected movies is still illegal, so at that point searching for a pirated BD rip on the internet will be equally illegal but cheaper and faster.

I know for sure that here in Italy the movie will get a theatrical run. "Evangelion: 3.0" still holds the record for the most tickets in a single day for an anime, so if you speak italian that may be an option. If you don't than Japan would be the same and faster (obviously going to Japan just to see a movie is not the best way to spend your money).

I don't know about the US, but in the UK, the relevant law explicitly allows copying for private use, such as media-shifting or backup. Other EU countries have similar, but less restrictive than the UK version (which doesn't allow copying for other members of the same family).

http://www.copyrightuser.org/understand/exceptions/private-copying/
Under UK Copyright Law, end users can make ‘personal copies for private use’ of content they ‘lawfully acquired on a permanent basis’. This means that it is lawful to make copies of materials you have purchased, received as a gift or downloaded from legal sources. However, it is not permitted to copy content borrowed from a friend, rented or unlawfully obtained. Also, the copies made under this copyright exception cannot be used for commercial purposes.

With the expression ‘private use’, the law explicitly allows format-shifting (e.g. converting audio files from CDs into MP3 format) and making back-up copies. You can also store your personal copies in the cloud without infringing copyright, as long as the storage service is accessible only by you.

Unlike in other EU Member States, under the UK private copying exception it is still illegal to share personal copies with family or friends. However, by limiting the exception to these narrow uses, the UK government has tried to avoid the creation of a complex system of fair compensation as implemented in many EU countries.

UK Copyright Law also allows time-shifting of broadcasts. This means you can record a TV or radio broadcast for viewing or listening at a more convenient time.

However, you are still right, because (as you specified) it is still illegal to break protection measures:
It is important to note that even after the implementation of the private copying exception, consumers are not allowed to break copy protection technology (in legal jargon: Technological Protection Measures, or TPMs) in order to benefit from the exception. Rightsholders often apply TPMs to prevent any use of the work that they have not authorised and TPMs are themselves legally protected as a form of quasi-copyright. This means that if the work you want to copy for private, non-commercial use is protected by a TPM, you cannot circumvent the technical protection even though your use would be a form of private copying. In cases in which permitted acts are prevented by TPMs, a procedure exists which should allow you to use the content, but this is so difficult that so far no one has followed it.

The Japanese Eva BDs have AACS MKB version 56 protection.

Don't speak Italian haha. I also want to see it in Japanese, these are the VAs I've always known.
The rip being illegal sounds very dumb to me, one of those cases where morality and law don't mean the same.
I want to buy the BD to support khara. I guess I could also wait for a Spanish bd, which would take longer and have less money go directly to khara. And it's a little hard spending money on a Spanish edition when they ruined the 3.0 BD (much lower bitrate, hardcore visual noise at times).
The rip would only be used to attach subtitles.

I have an update on this. Hopefully it helps somebody (and somebody can help me lol)?
Will I be able to watch Shin Eva when the Japanese bluray comes out being a legal boi?

Things needed: the film, subtitles

I'll preorder that film the very milisecond it's available.
Problem is it's Region A. Apparently this means it works no problem on American bluray players? I envy you.

Well, I just found a solution. The legal, free PC bluray player Lewao. Apparently one of the best ones out there, and it plays blurays of all regions. YES! I'll be able to watch the film. Will I be able to understand it though?

Lewao says you can freely add subtitles to what you watch, I'm not getting it to work though.
Do you think the Japanese Shin blu ray could include English subtitles? (Is there a way to contact khara for this?)
Either khara includes subs or I find a solution.

Btw, it would also be potentially great if khara released the film on UHD/4k (which are region free). I'm sure this seems unlikely to many, or unnecessary. I just know Star Wars episode II is forever 720p, and this film deserves a very high-def master.

Don't the Hong Kong BD releases have English subs included? I'm pretty sure 3.33 did at least. If you already have or are looking at a region free player, I think importing one of those might be the low-stress option for you.
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

∆ That seems like a good idea. But do those get released simultaneousley with Japan (to watch the movie ASAP and avoid spoilers)?

If I remember correctly, there was a one or two month gap between the Japanese and the Hong Kong releases. Also, while the discs are cheaper, so is the quality of the product. But it'll include English subs, at the very least.

I stand by my morale code, Piracy is a distribution problem. If they don't make it available in my market, I have no obligation to follow the rules of the market they've released it in.
I'll still buy the Blu-Ray, cuz I love Anno and they look amazing. But I won't hesitate adding subs to it, like, at all.

After waiting 8 years, I won't be waiting for Netfllix lol. I would be incapable of waiting any more.
