In the End of Evangelion, the Black Moon ascended into the upper atmosphere. We can see from the Nerv HQ main screen that there is a video feed from a very high altitude. Since the GeoFront is built on the surface of the Black Moon, does it mean that the HQ rode along with the Black Moon and the feed came from the ground surviliance, which is floating in the upper atmosphere, instead of some satellites?
Given that Nerv had just been sieged by the JSSDF, their life-support system must be quite impressive; none of the gangs were suffering hypoxia.
What happens to the Nerv HQ during the Third Impact?

I always interpreted it that way. The entire floor of the Geofront is the surface of the Black Moon, with NERV's surface on top, and a main shaft boring into the Moon, directly to Lilith.
This all must mean that the underground portions of NERV HQ (or at least Terminal Dogma) is airtight.
*injects Angel blood* I know what the fuck an EVA is now :)

The atmosphere of HQ is tightly controlled. All those armored, airtight hatches. Remember when Misato and Shinji go through one of them in episode 1 and Misato's hair whips back from the pressure change?
The Geofront surface would have been screwed on account of the hole the JSSDF blew into the lid, but it was scorched earth after the Black Moon was extracted via that huge explosion anyway.
