Hey guys, what's with all of the Japanese moonspeak getting posted all over the forum, I mean seriously guys, not everyone can read crazy asian languages.

If it were up to me I would wordfilter every Japanese word to Yaranaika, but then again, it's not up to me and most people wouldn't get it anyway.

Babelfish is made of hideous translations and fail

in addition, my knowledge of Japanese is fairly close to NONE.

Actually, it's been an idea I've had for a while, but I haven't had the time nor the money to do so, so it's indefinitely postponed.

The process of learning isn't hard?

Regarding money, the Internets could suffice as a substitute. (Although they'd probably be better as supplements to a couple of really good books...)

I dunno lol. Probably because multiple forum members are either taking classes currently or have dipped their toes in the water, and stuff just ... happens. Would be ideal to restrict Moonspeak to the Moonspeak thread, yeah.

Or at-least provide a translation so everyone can read it.

Hm, perhaps interweb could help me getting started on the language since I have almost no knowledge at all about it.

Any idea of sites that could help me?

It's just a lot of memory. However if you're an old guy, you're pretty much bucked in the futt.

I'm picking up Japanese a lot faster than I picked up Latin.

But that's no fun... BTW, above I wrote "Moonspeak is lots of fun." (Literally translating "Moonspeak" as Tsukibanashi.)

MaggotMaster wrote:Hm, perhaps interweb could help me getting started on the language since I have almost no knowledge at all about it.

Hmmm... It's been a long time since I was a n00b. Probably the best thing to do would be to both indoctrinate yourself with the phonetic writing systems (hiragana and katakana -- requires memorization and practice, but, oh, THE POWER once they've been learned! -- and how they're pronounced) and the fundamentals (basic vocabulary and grammar, particles, verbs).

Sounds intimidating at first, but you just gotta approach it the right way. What helped me was having things I wanted to be able to read and understand. (And now I'm paying more attention to E-->J since it's fun to write in Japanese to other members of the forum learning the language.)

Animelyrics.tv's forums (where I go now and again for translation help) has a list of resources. I haven't explored them in detail, but here they are: http://www.animelyrics.tv/forum/topic_show.pl?tid=6109

For those of you who need to look up J-->E, I have three useful resources on my own list:

- Eijirou @ SpaceAlc (Godly. It doesn't tell you how to pronounce kanji, but the sheer number of contextual entries it has makes up for this. Not n00b-friendly.)
- Excite (Less stuff than Eijirou, but also useful.)
- goo Jisho (When the above two fail. Second button.)

And, hey. I just noticed that Excite and goo also have E-->J. Excellent. Eijirou might, too -- I just haven't found it.

- Excite
- goo Jishou (First button)

:P I chalk most of the people who incessantly produce the "moonspeak" to being the anime version of a preppy. They need to feel special about themselves and prove they are better than “others.” Effectively they want to create their own little clique to set them apart from the “others” in the process by proving they know the “moonspeak.” (Albeit not very well in most cases it seems.) Reminds me of high school actually. :P

And in case you weren't able to pick up on that, YES THAT WAS SARCASM
