Relationship between Angels and Primates

In Episode 05, Ritsuko stated that despite being made of particle-wave matters, Shamshel's genetic pattern is 99.89% similar to that of Homo sapiens. Later in the End of Evangelion, Misato revealed that the Angels are "humans who cast aside human form".

In Episode 22, young Asuka is shown to have a monkey doll. It is probably safe to assume monkey, and by extension, all other primates exist in the NGE universe.

In our universe, primate is a monophyletic group, which includes all species arisen from a common ancestor. If primates have evolved similarly in the NGE universe, all primates will share a similar genetic pattern.

Since there is a theory that Lilin's evolution is somehow guided, my questions are the following:

  • At which point did the guided evolution start? Did it affect any of H. sapiens' sister groups?
  • What is the relationship between non-human primates and Angels?

One thing NGE is guilty of is anthropocentrism. The First Ancestral Race are humans who transferred their souls via Instrumentality into chambers of guf, to be guided by Seeds that would rebirth them once a suitable planet had been found. If the Seed consumes the Fruit of Life, the FAR souls are reborn as Angels. As for Lilin, it's treated as though humans are the inevitable result of the evolutionary process. It would appear that non-human Lilith-based lifeforms aren't gifted with the Fruit of Knowledge; rather that the FoK is an abstract concept of sentience/sociability/language, or whatever it is that separates man from animal. As Gendo puts it, science is the power of man. The ability to collectively acquire and pass down information has propelled our species forward. Angels lack the Fruit of Knowledge, and therefore can probably be associated with a lower-sentience relatives in the primate family that aren't able to share information the way we do.

I might be rambling a bit. Basically, it all traces back the original humans, the common ancestor between both Lilin and Angels, the First Ancestral Race. The show uses the "~99% similarity" to highlight the connection between humans and Angels, but doesn't seek to go much further to comment on non-human Lilith-based life.

To avoid confusions, let us define a few terms.
  • Human: The original humans
  • Lilin: The 18th Angel
  • Homo sapiens: The actual species Lilin manifested in

I think that the evolution of H. sapiens per se is not inevitable, but sentience is. Let us assume that the Fruit of Knowledge is an evolutionary checkpoint. At some point, the ancestor of of H. sapiens obtained the Fruit of Knowledge and Lilin manifested itself in that species. That species and its descendants became human. In an alternatie universe, if honeybee were the first to achieve sentience, then honeybee would become human in that universe.

I was thinking along the line of whether do primates maintain their forms via AT fields. It is also interesting to think about their intelligence and sentience.
