What's the best Unit-01 model kit?
I am looking for one under 100 USD and I also am able to paint models. I want to hear anything you guys know about 01 model kits, whether you own one or not.
So it turns out I just almost ruined a perfect shirt. oof

You really don't need a whopping 100USD for a good Eva-01 model kit. The super expensive ones are actually worse looking and more painful to build.
If you want TV Eva-01:
The old Bandai kit is still great, only 2,500 yen, ~23cm tall. Only drawback is rubber arms: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10014549
The new Kotobukiya kit is also pretty great. Way more complicated and more expensive at 5,800 yen. ~20cm tall and smaller ratio between waist and shoulders: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10411187
If you want new movie Eva-01 I'd only recommend the new Kotobukiya kit, which is 5,400 yen. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10233439
The Bandai new movie kit has absolutely awful and unworkable proportions and armor sculpt and I would not recommend it.
For comparison here is all four Evas old and new. From left to right:
Bandai NME Eva-01 (it's poop)
Kotobukiya NME Eva-01
Kotobukiya TV Eva-01
Bandai 90s TV Eva-01

Re: What's the best Unit-01 model kit?
I'm of a nearly opposite opinion of the distinguished gentleman above.
I, personally, like the more organic/natural look of the arms on the Bandai Rebuild kits. Yes, they are limited to about a 40 degree bend at the elbow but these are models and not action figures, so I don't intend to have them doing acrobatics after I paint and build them.
The new Kotobukiya kits are great kits with a great amount of detail but do note that they are around 5-6 cm shorter in size than the Bandai kits. Sadly, neither Bandai nor Kotobukiya offer a full line of all Evas under one manufacturer.
My personal recommendation would be the Bandai Eva Unit 01 from Evangelion 2.0 kit here: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10114202
This version has a better armor sculpt than the 1.0 version, holographic AT Field part included.
It is also available on Amazon.com for under $60: http://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-EVA-01-Evangelion-Model/dp/B003FG64SS/
However, it really comes down to your own personal preferences with regard to the look of the build and the overall proportions of the unit itself.
The Kotobukiya kits are more screen-accurate but at the sacrifice of size and less organic/natural looking arms. Bandai has the bigger models and better looking arms but they have restricted movement and aren't 100% screen accurate in the armor sculpt. It really just depends on what you're willing to go with.
All of the above models except the TV Version of Eva Unit 01 are available on Amazon for under $65. You'll also have to distinguish between the "normal" version and the "Awakening" version of the 2.0 model kits. Both Bandai and Kotobukiya do awakened versions of Unit 01.

I think Ill either go with the old bandai one or the newer bandai 56USD one. The only thing I'm thinking at them moment is about proportions, honestly I could care less about joint angles.
So it turns out I just almost ruined a perfect shirt. oof

So like I said before I might go with the 1990 version or the evangelion 2.0 version. I actually might go with both due to the budget I have for my EVA addiction. Thanks a bunches
