Putting my conspiracy hat back on:

Ghibli announced today that Hayao Miyazaki’s new movie won’t be ready for another three to four years - 2021. 2022.

If that other kanji means “getting ready/working hard/whatever” then I’m guessing Hideaki Anno is saying he’ll be working non-stop for the next four years. Working hard does not necessarily mean ONLY ON EVA. I guess that once he & Khara finish up with Final in 2020 they’ll be jumping into work on (or continue helping make) Miyazaki’s final film until it’s finished in 2021 or 2022.

Either way, Final is coming out in 2020. With Toho & Toei on board now as distributors they’re going to make Final a big part of their financial year in 2020.

Anno's lanter was removed for a few hours because of some damages and what was left was either an Evangelion reference or Anno's tombstone

A questionable omen and whether it means something for FINAL.

I'm also mainly thinking that this means "there's stuff planned for these years", but with the recent Eva news the mind wanders there.
I wonder if the three movies thing makes sense? A small part of me thinks it could be possible, but with how the other movies were structured (leading to a finale) it makes me think it won't be like that.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

It can be... since I read the lyrics of the Sakura Nagashi song of Eva Q I have the suspicion (almost absolute certainty!) that Shinji will die in this movie.

I always thought that if Shinji die in fourth movie , five or ten years later they would remake the series without him and centered only on the girls. Apparently, I was wrong and will be sooner than I expected, in any case, it is better so, the sooner this happens, the sooner the poor bastard will be forgotten. It's the only relief he's going to get in life.

Is this at the Khara facility? I thought Anno was a hardcore atheist, I never thought he was a moderate atheist!

If it makes Shin Eva happen, I'll personally send him virgins to sacrifice...

The ritual thing is a tradition I think. It was done with Shin Godzilla too.

I wonder if that implies full scale production for the movie started only recently. I think the motion capture, editing and live action footage was all used for the teaser.

IIRC, most Japanese don't consider themselves religious in any real sense, and all of the Shinto holidays and rituals are more or less cultural or traditional. Also, it's weird how well atheism can rest within a religion that tells you to more or less not care about the gods. Buddism's agnostic/apathetic approach to deities really makes it convenient for many in that culture to not give too much thought or credence to the concept of one or more gods.

Fine by me. Still makes no difference to me what follows with FINAL after what happened in 3.0.

They are literally praying to battleships.
Why don't you save the Princess next time instead of being such a baby? She would love it and maybe you could get a sweet kiss. ~ sadly not Mari in Q (Joseki)

I'm pretty sure they did the same for the Yamato, and now it is Poseidon's summer house...
