I thought it would be interesting to see what the minds behind Evangelion were doing before, during, and after their work on the franchise. Here are some of my favourite films to come from members of the Evangelion team.

Godzilla (1984) - Shinji Higuchi (uncredited SFX assistant)

It has been 30 years since Japan faced the wrath of Godzilla, and, with the monster killed, they have rebuilt. But now, a new, larger Godzilla has appeared, and the Japanese must find new a way to defeat the King of the Monsters, all while the USA and USSR prepare to destroy Godzilla with nuclear weapons - no matter the cost.

The Gamera Trilogy (1995-1999) - Shinji Higuchi (SFX director)

As Humanity is ravaged by the horrific, Man-eating Gyaos (pictured) and a ruthless Legion of alien insects, they are protected by Gamera, an Atlantean biological weapon created to defend the Earth. However, Gamera's ultimate loyalty to the Earth rather than Humanity soon results in devastating consequences for Humanity and Gamera alike.

Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack(2001) - Shinji Higuchi (SFX director for JASDF attack sequence)

It has been 47 years since Godzilla's first attack, and in that time he has faded into legend, with only the survivors remembering the terror. However, monsters soon begin appearing across Japan, preparing to do battle with a resurrected Godzilla, while a young journalist discovers Godzilla's horrific motivations.

Shin Godzilla (2016) - Hideaki Anno (writer, chief director), Shinji Higuchi (co-director, SFX director), and Shirō Sagisu (composer)

It's a routine day in Tokyo when, suddenly, a giant, bleeding, mutating creature comes ashore, tearing the city apart. As a few government officials, scientists, and JSDF personnel attempt to break through the government's stifling beauracracy, the entire world faces annihilation at the hands of a perfect organism surpassing Man, a god incarnate - Godzilla.
