Greetings my fellow Eva Geeks!

So this post is related to this one:

thread/18524/Evangelion-Manga-Question/

I will soon be able to insert something I'm so deeply passionate about (as we all are), NGE into my education. My professor wants diversity, but also admits he knows little about graphic novels/manga and their genres. So, this is the reading list I've come with for the semester:

Graphic Novels List:

The Invisibles by Grant Morrison
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Bryan Lee O’Malley
Fight Club 2 by Chuck Palahniuk

Through The Woods by Emily Carrol
Bitch Planet by Kelly Sue DeConnick

Wuvable Oaf by Ed Luce
Beyond: The Queer Sci-fi & Fantasy Comic Anthology (various authors)

Astro Boy by Osama Tezuka
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
Neon Genesis Evangelion by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto
Trigun by Yasuhiro Nightow

The Incal by Alexandro Jodorowsky

Books About Graphic Novels/Comics:

Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud
Black Women In Sequence by Deborah Elizabeth Whaley
No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics by Justin Hall
Manga: Sixty Years of Japanese Comics by Paul Gravett

I figured this was a mix of "diverse" works and those that just have the cool factor.

Now, for Eva, I decided a volume of Astroboy would be necessary for historical context and Gundam would be needed for understanding how NGE properly deconstructs the giant mecha genre.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions for how to go about this study or recommendations I might add to the list?

Thanks,

-SIAA10

I think a good book to add is The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America by David Hajdu. It chronicles the early days of comics leading up to the events that, in turn, led up to the creation of the comics code.

Blankets is a great read. A testament to what you can express through comics.

I don't know if it fits what you're looking for, but what about Watchmen?
