Universal Monsters shared universe films

Universal is trying to pull off a shared universe with their classic 1930s-50s monsters.

Dracula Untold (2014) was the first entry in it, although its rumored they may be distancing themselves from it after it got meh reception.
I strongly hope that is not the case as I was a pretty big fan of it & Luke Evan's portrayal of Vlad in particular.

A new Mummy film is being made with Tom Cruise as the lead & Sofia Boutella as the Mummy.
Russell Crowe will be Dr. Henry Jekyll in it.
Official Synopsis ---
SPOILER: Show
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Behind the scenes images of Boutella in bandages & tattoos.

I actually really enjoyed Dracula Untold and Inhope they do a sequel with Charles Dance playing whoever it was he was actually supposed to be.

It had a few dumb moments like bats hitting people so hard it killed them but it was fun. I like fun movies.

Also I like sexy lady monsters.

I think he was suppose to be Caligula.
In the trailers you see shots of his lair that were not in the final film which had lots of Roman-ish relics and architecture. And bodies hanging from the ceiling.

In the final film it appears to just be a generic cave.
No idea why they changed it.

Intriguing. Anything but the generic "I am Cain and/or Judas and/or Cassius Longinus" master vampire is nice to see.

Lol I recall the Gerard Butler Dracula movie from 2000 revealed him to be Judas.

Honestly they pretty much did create the concept as far as movies go, so it makes sense.

Did they? It would be hilarious if it took that ridiculous movie to introduce that concept.

I have to admit it was actually clever how they tied the drinking of blood and the traditional vampire weaknesses to the Crucifixion.

No man... the originals, with Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Legosi.... multiple separate films starring different monsters that later did a few crossovers. And it's in the same universe as Abbot and Costello, somehow.

The godzilla movies did this as well, with some monsters like Rodan, Mothra, and Moguera first appearing in non-Godzilla films. There was also a couple of tv shows that are cannon as well. Even the terrible Mathew Brodderick one is tied into all this (it just isn't the real Godzilla).

Also seems like the banner cuts in the trailer are a reference to this line from the Bride of Frankenstein which is a nice callback.

Looks good, however Cruise's screaming during the crash really needed to be muffled by the air, it just comes off out of sync as it is here.

Stop showing me landmarks being destroyed Hollywood! I don't feel anything when I see a national monument blown up!
I’ll escape now from this world, from the world of Jean Valjean, Jean Valjean is nothing now! Another story must begin!

They should coat them in plastic instead. Start with the Reichstag.

I'm less excited about this now that Untold won't be part of it. I really liked that movie.

I liked Dracula Untold. I thought it was a really original take on the Dracula tale. Sad to hear it won't be part of this new universe.

Actually, no it isn't. I hate cinematic universes. If anything I'm glad a good movie is being left out of this bullshit.
