Re: News [NO POLITICS]
The block was recently refurbished, a major change being the addition on the outside of plastic cladding on wooden battens. There is speculation that this helped to spread the fire. The residents' association had blogged a number of times about their concerns regarding inadequate fire safety; this seems to have been justified, as reports say that the smoke/fire alarms did not sound.
Wow. Just, wow!
BBC wrote:Extraordinary stories are emerging of individuals who helped save those trapped in the tower - including one member of the public who caught a baby thrown from the ninth or 10th floor.

Re: News [NO POLITICS]
Apparently there was a young couple trapped in the buildind that was texting with their parents, the last text they recived was at 4 am and they wrote that the room was full of smoke and fire, then they stopped responding and they are now missing.
I can't imagine how those parents feel now.

Spielberg wins again.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

Nope, that's not up in the air at all. We know Velociraptor (or Deinonychus, to you hipsters) did have feathers, because a fossil was found with quill knobs.

Only it's not up in the air at all. We have abundant fossil evidence that Velociraptor and its close relatives did, in fact, have feathers. Want proof?

Delta Airlines flight to Puerto Rico didn't turn back because of the hurricane. At least not until after it had landed and refuelled.

Do you know how long it took for me to get your joke? Half a picosecond. Brain the size of a planet, and I'm stuck here, looking at jokes written by pseudonymous internet people.

Sign language interpreter used gibberish, warned of bears during Hurricane Irma update
http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2017/0 ... _used.html
This guy wasn't an interpreter, just a guy with a deaf brother they grabbed off the street. To be clear, this guy is not at fault at all. The county should have had a licensed interpreter ready to go. Agencies will have interpreters on retainer and ready to act round the clock. There was no reason to throw this gentlemen (who I'm sure had the best of intentions) into the spotlight and expect him to communicate life or death information to panicked people.
