News [NO POLITICS]

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

"Naruto" And "Bleach" Animator Kazunori Mizuno Passes Away

In my mind deaths to overworking is something I tend to connect with the Holocaust, slavery or the construction of the pyramids, it's a sad (and stupid) reality indeed.

It's common enough across Japan, and not just in the anime industry, that they even have a specific word for it -- karōshi (過労死), which can be translated literally as "overwork death" in Japanese, is occupational sudden mortality. The major medical causes of karōshi deaths are heart attack and stroke due to stress and a starvation diet.

I knew it was a problem but I didn't know it was so severe. I googled "karoshi" and I stumbled upon the sad story of Yuji Uendan, dead for overworking, that left "The time I spent has been wasted" as last message and it hit me really hard. Living in a western society morally based on the leftovers of Kant's idea of human dignity this kind of mentality is something I can't, and I won't, understand.

"Always act in such a way that you treat Humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another as an end in itself and never merely as a means."

Komodo dragon blood could be key to life-saving antibiotic

Using literal Dragon blood to make healing potions. We live in a fantasy light novel.

I'm not really sure I see an issue with Kotaku from the article to be honest. I think people talking about and sharing stuff like that about game dev is cool, despite the fact that it might be "common knowledge" to some.

Agreed. what I got from that was mostly "Twitter users suck," which is, well, Twitter.

https://www.motorsport.com/formula4/new ... sh-895833/

"British Formula 4 racer Billy Monger has lost both of his lower legs after a horrific crash during last weekend's final Donington Park race. The 17-year-old JHR Developments driver collided with Patrik Pasma after being completely unsighted as the Finn’s car was stranded at Schwantz Curve. Monger had to be airlifted to hospital after medics took nearly two hours to extract him from his car, but the extent of his injuries has emerged only now."

I rather see Kotaku as an example of, duh, "gaming journalism". Besides, it dumps shit on anything they see as weird from Japan, so that they rack up clicks for ads.

So these vessels are plainly visible when dissecting the brain, and no one in the history of medical science ever thought to ask, "oh, hey, what are those?" My pride as a scientist has taken a deep hit. I'm glad my specialty was never anatomy or medicine, because if it was I wouldn't be able to step outside after hearing that news.

Well, the number of chromosomes in the human genome was only correctly determined in 1954 (paper published in 1956).
