That's nifty. Biggest problem with it might actually be that it's too small and thus easy to lose, especially since it's transparent.

I bet they'll be dirt cheap once they start being mass produced, though. Just imagine: here's everything we've ever been able to collect that humanity's written, produced for TV, recorded, everything. Also, the internet. All of it. Get yearly updates, make it searchable, and the scope of human knowledge increases by a staggering margin.

Hell, the biggest hurdle will be setting a price. But once it's publicly available does it even matter? Heck, can a price tag even be meaningfully attached? I dunno, but things are about to get really interesting.

If it seems too good to be true, it likely is. I believe this when I see it.

It's like hard AI. Do I doubt it can exist? No. Do I think this will exist or become commonplace in my lifetime? I'm inclined to say no.

It has nothing to do with AI. It's all about how long quartz can retain its form, which is a known value. Your "inclinations" have no bearing on the matter.

This is established tech, Ray. Your skepticism is simple foolishness here.

This is just too ridiculous to go in the serious news thread:

http://news.yahoo.com/lawyer-man-dumped ... 12782.html

So this guy finds a houseguest dead of an overdose in his bathroom, and what does he do? He hauls her down to his car, loads her in, drives out to an uninhabited stretch of road, and dumps the body. It's like Weekend at Bernie's brought to life or something. Who does something like that? She ODed, just call the cops and be done with it. But now, for his trouble, he gets hit with one of the best charges ever: misdemeanor abuse of a corpse. That'll be a heck of a conversation piece for his next paramour!

I would assume he was somehow involved in the proceedings or wanted to avoid official scrutiny for some reason. The story has a wiff of bullshit about it.
