FML general thread [8]

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

's'OK - I had that with my father-in-law. Somewhat with my mother, but she did well for her age, starting with a BBC micro at age 60, and moving on to an Archimedes. But Windows and Word somewhat defeated her (or her them - I remember her complaining that a toolbar was missing, and it turned out that she had dragged it off the screen "because it was in the way"!).

Work and hobby. The main issue is not setting up the machine, but getting him to actually be sensible about it and not do things he might regret later...

...although I suspect that he could do all his stuff with an account with limited rights - as long as I also disable booting from CD (and add a BIOS password to be sure...). The latter would have avoided this mess, since he wouldn't have been able to boot from the recovery CD.

I already suggested letting loose some recovery software on the hard disk (it was a quick format, so only the partition tables are lost), including pointing out that if he wrote more data to the disk that option would also be eliminated, but he thought he knew better  ...oh well, can't help people who want to be stubbornly stupid, can I?

Sounds difficult to deal with. I hope he's more sensible in other matters.
A limited rights account might mitigate him causing huge disasters, though.

^ It has been somewhat resolved now.

In other matters, Psycho-Neighbour was away for close to a week (the lack of noise was wonderful :happypills: ), but now he's back together with the goddamn parents (who are very noisy right nowthe whole time - also, they didn't break their earlier duration record of vacuuming a 2-room appartement: only five hours today instead of seven) . Guess there's no chance that next week will be quiet - too bad for them that I chose this period to do most preparations for moving (so TBH they can fuck off :yoda: ). I have a lot of stuff, but advancements are such that I might be able to move forwards the date of the actual moving... :D

^ So that ended up being less bad than I feared, as it was only the one day, followed by two weeks of Psycho-Neighbour absence. First time in 18 months :irked: .

But well, New Year, New Psycho-Neighbour Really Dumb Loud Phone Call.

Remember he lost his driving license? Last week when he came back from wherever he fortunately went to, he had a loud discussion with his girlfriend where he dropped the mother of all cluster-F-bombs for about 45 minutes (approx. 1 local language equivalent of "motherfucker" every couple of seconds, e.g. "That motherfucker! He's a motherfucker. Motherfucker, won't give it back. Motherfucker." etc.). I then wondered what that was about.

Yesterday, it was the Day of Revelations, with the aforementioned phone call. Apparently he lost the driving license in April. For six months. Likely an alcohol or drug-related offense. Looking at the rules, he must have got caught a few times before. He finally underwent the medical examination (instead of paying the x-thousand Euro fine), and failed it. That medical examination is a special one, where they not only give a check-up, but also ask a lot of questions regarding mental state and insight into the patient's own behaviour, and do blood tests on traces of drug and alcohol-abuse.
So he now has to take driving lessons again, and by the sound of the phone call (to a driving school, likely a specialized one for people with his kind of problems) I don't think he will be getting back his license very soon, especially not because he'll also have to pass the medical examination again (which considering his drug and alcohol-abuse...). The phone call started with him being very aggressive, barking questions about taking the fast lane down the phone, and getting turned down. Every. Single. Time. After a while he toned down, and said "But I haven't driven since April, and I'm worried about..." - a complete contradiction to his earlier questions (and a lie, since I saw him driving around after April...). And I don't think the person on the other side of the line was fooled by it, since the rest of the phone call was rather subdued.

Unfortunately that also means he's been taking out his frustrations on doors and the like since yesterday evening....

(It's all survivable, because I'll have the keys of my new apartment in a few days, and will move at the end of February. OTOH, no witness to future Psycho-Neighbour "Motherfuckers won't give it back EVER"-meltdown...priorities, priorities, it's hard  )

Voted in college to be Most likely to Take Over the World, how to do that however, will require at least Four Evangelions. Thanks for the idea Misato-san!
