Happy Halloween!

I spent it dressed up as an alien playing guitar on my roof while children watched and yelled at me.

Best Halloween ever.

I get to be manager on duty at a restaurant tonight in West Hollywood, which is already notorious for being a party town. Normally we're a slow store, but today we're expected to have several straight hours of nonstop business, with sales at $1000+ per hour. To make it even better, one out of our four fryers doesn't work (and since we're normally slow, it hasn't been a priority to fix), and over the last couple days one of the coolers started leaking water which accumulates on the makeline floor. Expecting to get off work around 2am. I already want today to be over with.

One of these years, I will be able to celebrate Halloween, dammit.

While I saw what looked like groups of trick-or-treaters going by earlier in the evening, nobody knocked, so the supplies laid in will just have to be disposed of in an alternative fashion.

Stocking up on clementines and home-grown apples as treats seems to have, over the years, had its effect.

I went as a lumberjack. Worked a 7.5 hour shift (I'm a barista) while in costume.

Tornadoes aren't very fun, at all.

Eating all the chocolate since no trick-or-treaters are stopping by, however, is. :tongueflap:

Happy Halloween. I had never carved my own pumpkin before until today, but the company I work for was selling those small pie pumpkins for $1.00 each, so I picked one up and carved it. Turned out pretty nice.

Didn't do much today aside from just relaxing and playing games, as the weather here is quite nasty, and the majority of my friends in town work until late tonight.

Even though I have weekends off I kinda wished I worked today. Would have gone in as a Sith or Imperial Officer but since I had the day off I didn't bother buying a costume haha.

Meh. I have no natural affinity with Halloween (it didn't exist as a thing in my childhood), and it's one of the rare things which actually shows me up as a grumpy old fart. I shut the gates (literal ones) against it. What I see passing is children on their way to a party, dressed up in unimaginative costumes either made by their parents or simply bought, being encouraged by those parents to go to the houses they pass to beg. There's no game involved, no cleverness, no attempt at fun or mischief, just spoiling of children by building their sense of entitlement.

I just hope that next week I see a decent guy (for a Guy Fawkes night bonfire) with a proud child next to it with their hand out - that I can relate to, but it's got very rare.

SSD, you are cute as hell.

That said, it's sad to see that Halloween has gone down the tubes in so many places. Yeah, it's all about kids begging for candy, but so what? Isn't that allowable once per year? It used to be fun, damn it.

On the upside, one girl at my local Chipotle was in the proper Halloween spirit, and was dressed as a catgirl. She made my day a little brighter.

I dressed up as Homura and played TF2 with my friends on Skype. I have a picture of myself, but it was coerced by my Skype friends. I don't normally play with them so it was still a special evening and I'm glad I wasn't totally by myself on a holiday.

Talk about a lousy season. I didn't see a single jackolantern all month, and my daily commute spans five miles. One house set up a zombie in their yard and one house covered their fence in fake spiderwebs. Otherwise it was just business as usual. God I feel sorry for the kids around here.

This October was so underwhelming that it actually marked the first time since 2003 that I didn't go through with my Halloween tradition - turning out all the lights and watching Hocus Pocus and Nightmare Before Christmas.

At least I didn't have to deal with having my painstakingly-crafted jackolantern smashed by miscreants in the middle of the night like the last two years. There's something to be said for apathy, though I guess that just makes me part of the problem.

Better luck next year.
Set phasers to thrill.
