This more than anything. I don't like Funi, but I will absolutely support domestic releases of Eva stuff.
Besides, a US bluray will be less of a pain to watch.

Maybe... I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, though.

No idea of why it's taking so long but you'd think the script as the easiest thing since we are talking about fleshed out everythings for new story bits. But what would I know

Despite their word, I don't think I'll believe it til I see it. It's been what - nearly 3 years now?

Maybe we'll get some cool extras or something, but I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure that he said that he's trying to work on both.

If not though, then that is extremely frustrating for him to put aside an already delayed production just for a fricken Godzilla film. :irked:

It would be silly of him to put off working on a Godzilla film just to finish a fricken' cartoon.

Anno has roughly spent a good 15 years of his adult life working on things Evangelion. I'm not surprised that when the studio whose films he grew up on offered him a chance to make HIS Godzilla movie he put things on hold.

It's not like Final is never going to happen. I'm just happy as a big fan of Hideaki Anno the artist that we're actually going to get a new work from him next year.

That depends on your point of view. The only important thing is, that Shin comes out, when it's ready. The only thing that would frustrate me, was if Hideaki suddenly said, he would never make Shin. But that's not the case.

Another question/remark: I thought, Anno's work on Godzilla is being a scriptwriter, not director? He already handed in his script. So if he feels like it, he has more than enough time to slowly, but steadily push Eva forward.

^ No, Anno is both the writer and director of Godzilla. Shinji Higuchi is directing the special effects, but Anno will be directing the actors and the main production unit.

Yes, yes, it is. Godzilla has been a part of Japanese culture for more than 60 years, and is deeply tied to Japanese concerns about national identity and nuclear weapons. He is symbolic of the wounds the Japanese suffered as a result of WWII, both self-inflicted and otherwise. By contrast, Eva is a cartoon that met great commercial success and had some neat characters and offered a bit of commentary on the state of the post-war generation. Noteworthy, sure, and certainly influential, but not even close to being in Godzilla's league. Getting a chance to put his own stamp on such an iconic legend is a massive opportunity for Anno, one he would be foolish to waste. And that's leaving aside the fact that he's one of the biggest Tokusatsu geeks on the planet! Expecting him to put it off in favor of Eva is like suggesting he put off a date with his dream girl so he can hang around with his buddies and get high. It just doesn't make any sense.

This is a dream come true for Anno, so we should be happy for him. Also, we're getting a great Godzilla flick out of the deal, so we should be happy about that, too. Eva will come when it comes. Let's just keep things in perspective and be happy with what we have, eh?

And speaking as a Godzilla fan, the big G's return engagements have traditionally been a bit on the dull side. The Return of Godzilla and Godzilla 2000 aren't bad movies and are far from Godzilla's worst, but they aren't as great as some of the follow-ups in their respective series. The Anno/Higuchi team have the potential to deliver a stellar Godzilla movie that sets a very high bar for Series 4! I'm really excited by that! :D
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

The first original movie definitely and most certainly the "self-inflicted" part of WW2, but not the others Godzilla flicks. They're just random monster brawls for the most part. Then again, I probably missed the deep plot and message of Final Wars greatly.

It wasn't just 1954, but that aside: between 1954 and Final Wars, which do you think Anno is more likely to give us? Can you imagine what he could do with an icon as powerful as Godzilla? It would be like giving James Cameron free reign with a Star Wars movie.

As soon as the project was announced, I immediately thought of Giant Monsters All Out Attack. The concept of Godzilla being a manifestation of the souls of the dead sounds like something Anno would also find interesting, especially given his Evangelion lore. So, basically the concept of GMAOA combined with the tone of the original 1954 film, all executed Anno style.

That being said, Anno's most likely a fan of the 60's and 70's classics. I'd be surprised if he wasn't of the opinion that The Terror of Mechagodzilla wasn't the best of the "Godzilla VS" movies. And given Anno's very wide and eclectic approaches to film, I can also see him making his Godzilla movie in that style instead.

Whatever he does though, it will be very unique to him. All the more reason why I'm way too excited over this movie. :D

Oh, come now. Surely he'd favor Godzilla vs. Megalon. I mean, yes, it's awful, but Jet Jaguar!

I'm still more interested in eva than zilla, it's giant gods and everything but I know the fights won't top stuff like EoE's.
