No, actually! I found it irritating how a thread could stem a new thread that's exploding with stawmen and shit flinging, which then stemmed ANOTHER thread where the same thing is happening. It's pretty chaotic to me, usually it's because it's the same handful of people doing it. I made this thread to lighten the mood and perhaps put focus on something else. I know I'll be told "well people will still post in the feminist/MRA/UK political threads you're not really helping". Yeah? Well I can at least try. Off topic is the only reason why people stay on EGF these days and I honestly see it going to shit whenever a new political thread pops up, since you cannot expect people to have a civil discussion ever, or know when to stop.

Not so, even though it is the busiest part of the forum right now.

Such discussions can be adequately controlled. Remember that civility does not imply universal agreement, and a very vigorous discussion can take place without needing to descend to ad hominem attacks or other unacceptable tactics. This puts a strain on the moderation staff, sure - and different forums handle it differently because of the resources they are able to deploy, and because of simply different views of what is acceptable. And some non-staff people just dislike the spectre of disagreement and seeing their views attacked - fine, there's no compulsion to join in or even to read the thread.
Now, have a natural rock bridge in Wadi Rum (Southern Jordan):
In fact, why not have two?

I have a lot of objections and contradictions for this but I'm choosing not to state them because I'm more interested in strictly staying on topic
