I was joking and giving a knee jerk reaction more than anything else.

Speaking of which, how? How did this get made? Doesn't the Japanese government have censors and penalties towards media that chooses to include the Nazis? Didn't Gainax got into hot water with FLCL when they had Naotos dad wear a German uniform complete with swastika armband for a one off gag?

It sounds stupid, but looking at the pictures I can sorta see where she's coming from. I was not aware that there was that much moss diversity in Japan.

Manga artists have had it with western journalists.

Bit of an exaggeration of the article, don't you think? It's one manga artist being interviewed.

Well, one Japanese manga artist, Toshio Maeda, had no qualms about calling out journalists for their faux moral grandstanding on behalf of fictional anime and video game women, yet maintain practical silence on the victimization of real life women.

As Monk said, one artist.

But there are other problems with this. Mentioning real-life women here is a straw-man type of argument. Their cases are handled by many journalists, not necessarily the same ones, not necessarily as effectively in all cases (but maybe more so in some) - but their cases are independent of fiction. The issue here is not parity between fictional and real women, but whether there are arguments to be made concerning fictional women specifically.

The matter that should really be being addressed here is what the effect of fiction is on real life. Does extraordinary violence in fiction (and games, which I include under the same heading for simplicity) blunt people's responses to it in real life? Does the depiction of victimised, sexualised or subservient women normalise these states in naive people's minds? The results of studies are mixed and inconclusive - which means that merely parroting that those who disagree with your own view are wrong is bound to be inconclusive, because whatever view that is, it cannot be incontrovertibly backed up. There is discussion to be had concerning the credibility of different studies, and about the likelihood of such effects, or the constraints under which they may become significant - but ranting achieves none of those things.

I mostly just posted it because the thread had fallen to the bottom, so I looked for the first article I could find to resurrect it.

Well, that wasn't necessarily a good way to do it. Still, you have my response, the point of which could also be applied pretty much as it stands to the games censorship complaint.

Bumping threads for the sake of bumping is spam. Better to necromance a thread with a good article here and there than to ensure the thread stays active by bumping it with subpar content consistently. The "Only in Japan" thread is not one that is likely to be forgotten for very long anyways.

^ The two things I would change is removing the trackpad on the keyboard (mouses existed in the 1980s) and replace Windows 10 by a more efficient OS. The thing only has an Atom processor, Win10 will be sluggish on that, and will also fill a significant part of the 32Gb hard disk (SSD?). Instead they should use a Linux or Unix flavor with a lightweight window manager, stripped down to the most essential software.

It's also a bit light on USB ports (2 only).

You're thinking of Yosuga no Sora. Oreimo had no sex at all from what I recall, unless you take the gargantuan amount of porn made as headcanon.

No I know what I said, there wasn't any sex in either the LN or the anime but what was implied in that ending (moreso in the LN) made it very clear.
