^^ See, I think that stuff is great. It’s just the lack of specifics, Anno’s suddenly busy schedule, and the fact that it’s taking so long that is somewhat annoying. I think a lot of us here wouldn’t be so jittery about it if we had a clear statement of “We’re at exactly this stage in the process now” from Funimation.

Honestly I can't think of a single one, which is why I switched to buying from Japan directly to cut out as many middlemen as possible.

^ I did this. Though, TBH, I think I’ll buy the English release when it happens anyway.

I'm in the same boat. Getting the booklet and the extras translated would be nice, after all. But I'm not holding my breath -- it happens when it happens, and until them I'm kind of "eh" on the whole thing.

Today begins Anime Expo in Los Angeles. If this doesn't show up by Funimation's panel tomorrow, then Eva 3.33 has become the vaporware of the North American Anime industry.

There is also the big 20th Anniversary Event happening on Sunday which features some sort of voice cast thing happening. There has to be some news to come out of it other than "We're working closely with Khara"

The most interesting thing about that event is that Funimation has nothing to with it. These Bang Zoom fellows could be swiping the NGE Blu-ray rights out from under Funi's nose.

At this point, I hope Funimation does lose the rights and someone else picks them up. It didn't take nearly this long to dub the movie the first time without the studio's input, so I can't imagine how they've taken over a year redoing an hour and a half of content when they've done a bunch of other movies and full series in the meantime!

Edit- cleaned up some muddled language

If Funimation is taking this long on Eva when they've released multiple series in the meantime, that tells me that the problem isn't so much Funi's fault as it is Khara's.

I have to agree with this, I have no idea what the quality was like for the first Funimation attempt at 3.33 but they had it ready with a release date, next thing we knew was they were working with Khara and they had a new date. This came and went and still no word. It does make you wonder if maybe the hang-up is on Kharas end. :/

The introduction of Bang Zoom into this also makes things interesting. Is it possible they're working with Funimation on this? Or even something else, I don't know anything about them.

Khara's intervention was the second delay. The first time they pushed back the blu ray release, they claimed it was from the high demand for an extended theatrical run, which, as far as I can tell, involved maybe four theaters before it was quietly dropped and funimation went silent until the redubbing business started.

Do we have any reason to suppose that Khara were not involved in that initial delay, and the excuse was a cover-up before Funi realised that the game had changed?

Peeps aren't going to know the real story now or probably ever, so what function does finger-pointing serve? Not going to make the BD come out any sooner, so we can probably do without myth-spinning.

This is incredibly ignorant of the whole reason why companies exist.

Japanese companies are no better in the "They do it just for profit" department. They simply know how to cater better to their target buyers. If what you said is true and all FUNimation cared about was profit while Khara only cared about their "passion" FUNimation would be selling the base movie with subtitles without anything else for 40 bucks and Khara would be giving away copies of 3.33 for free, but since that isn't the case, we can stop with the mass assumptions.

Yes, all companies do things for profit.

The difference here is Khara is a content creator, thus worth supporting if you like their content.

Funi is a content reseller. They exist to make money off of other people's work.

By getting content to people who want it who would otherwise be unable to obtain it or pay more than necessary to obtain it. FUNimation wouldn't be so big if consumers in the west didn't demand a cheaper release of anime in the west and were more willing to spend the arm and a leg of their first born child to get the anime they want from Japanese creators. Those same creators who, more often than not, don't giving a flying rats ass about any of their fans outside Japan. So the notion that the content creator is somehow better than the redistributor in this scenario (which is the vibe I'm getting) doesn't seem to make sense.

Poppycock. The arm and the leg of my first born would go for way more than anything Japan could ever dream to charge for blu-rays.

From the Amazon thread discussion:

Expected delivery: November 10, 2015 - November 12, 2015
Evangelion 3.33: You Can {Not} Redo [Blu-ray]

I'm sure we still have to take this with a grain of salt until there's something officially announced, but if Funi claimed they want to release 3.33 late 2015/early 2016, it sounds like a possible release date to me.

Oh, something interesting from Squall: Tiffany Grant at Kraken Con yesterday mentioned 3.0's first recording was roughly July 2013 while the second was roughly August 2014. She also confirmed Khara stepped in to work on things.
