Games that deserve a good adaptation of some form...

So video game movies have been a thing for ages. Unfortunately, most of them suck (with the possible exception of the Tomb Raider movies). I for one believe that it doesn't have to be this way, and with proper care and attention a movie adaptation of a game could be a good thing.

So, what games do you thinl deserve a proper adaptation (or a good one if they've already had one that sucked)?

For me, I can think of a few:

Skullgirls: Skullgirls absolutely bleeds style, and it has a pretty good story too. Obviously a live-action Skullgirls movie wouldn't work, but an animated film (or OVA series) could be great. Ideally I'd want it animated by the guys who did the (absolutely gorgeous) animation for the game, but they'd probably need help from an actual animation studio- I'd say Trigger would be ideal for the job, especially with Hiroyuki Imaishi's directorial talent.

Vanquish: This game is already a spectacle in and of itself, and at least in my opinion would make for a superb action movie. Sure the plot is pure cheese, but it's not offensively bad and could easily be padded out a bit for the jump to the silver screen. And with all the different setpieces and action sequences in the game it's not even like they'd have to make anything up to meet the "insane action quota".

Bayonetta: Yes, we already got Bayonetta: Bloodyfate, but that was by GONZO and from what I'm aware was pretty awful. Nah, what I need in my life is a tongue-in-cheek, shamelessly cheesy live-action Bayonetta movie that captures the charm of the videogame in all its bloody, fanservice-filled, spectacularly insane glory.

Yume Nikki: We DID get a Yume Nikki manga but it...didn't really work (although the art was decent enough). Y'know what would be good though? A Yume Nikki OVA in the style of something like Robot Carnival, Angel's Egg and other minimal-dialogue surreal anime OVAs/movies. It needs to capture the feel of the game: Next to no dialogue, disturbing music, a surreal yet horrific atmosphere and most importantly ZERO HANDHOLDING. The reason the manga failed was that it attempted to explain the story, and in doiung so ruined the feeling of mystery that made the game so unsettling. I'd suggest Mamoru Oshii for direction. Done right, a Yume Nikki short movie/OVA could be the next Eraserhead.

Anyway, enough of my babbling. What do you think?

Bioshock, but as a prequel to the game. Rapture's rise and fall would make for some pretty darn good TV. Who doesn't love aquatic steampunk political drama? :D

Give us a goddamn good live-action Metroid movie for Christ's sake.

Hell, do what the original game did and not reveal Samus is female until the very end. I know a lot of people who'd watch it would know, but for the ones that don't, would still be a good twist for them.

I watched it; it wasn't terrible but it also wasn't fabulous enough to be worth it, possibly because it tried to jam too much into one film. If they made an animated TV series I feel that would work out really well.

Live-action probably wouldn't work, though, on the premise of how difficult it is to get hair to cover everything in the right way and the fact that Bayonetta's Slenderman proportions can't be replicated on an ordinary human (as that Playboy Bayonetta 2 ad proves).

I'd love to see Madhouse finish what they started and turn all of Crisis Core and FFVII into an anime. For those who don't know, they made an amazing OVA back when Advent Children was released, called Last Order: Final Fantasy VII. I highly recommend checking it out, it's not the most coherent OVA in the world but the animation and art style are amazing. It basically covers Cloud and Zack's battle with Sephiroth inside the Nibelheim mako reactor, and their subsequent escape from the Shin-Ra Mansion.

I'm really not a big fan of live-action video game movies, so here's some other game series I'd like to see turned into anime:

Golden Sun
Assassin's Creed
Metal Gear Solid
Wolfenstein
Dead or Alive
Kingdom Hearts
[Redacted]

@NemZ - Yes. Bioshock would make a good adaption! Production value would need to be big and from Infinite they had enough of a hard time releasing it after the original company for it fell through.

@IronEvangelion - There is also On the Way to a Smile: Episode Denzel. But that and Last Order are the only two, as the rest of the On they Way to a Smile series are books. But your point, I agree with it, but I don't know how much FF7 related content is being released now days.

So anyone here of the Halo TV show? When was that suppose to be coming out?

I've always wanted to see a live action Dead Space film. The storytelling in the first two games is brilliant (haven't played the third) and there's a very rich world to be explored, between the Marker and the Necromorphs, to the church of Unitology, and even the psychological aspects. I think John Carpenter has even expressed a similar sentiment of thinking Dead Space would make a good film.

It might be difficult to translate into a (anime)movie/series/whatever, because the pressure you feel while playing it, adds a lot to the futile atmosphere, but I'd love to see a port of Majora's Mask. But before that happens I guess they'd make one out of Ocarina of Time, wouldn't they? I'll +1 the idea of a Kingdom Hearts series. This could even happen, since its convoluted story needs some refreshing, before we'll finally move into the third part of the series.

I'd definitely watch it.

I would like to see a CGI movie called Final Fantasy X-0 with Braska, Jecht and Auron.

Yeah, Bayonetta's impossibly leggy proportions would make a live action depiction...difficult. That said I'd be happy with a Bayonetta who didn't look exactly like her game counterpart if it meant seeing her in live action form. An animated TV series would be good though, provided the animation didn't suck.

I won't quite be satisfied with life until there's an Earthsiege movie. Fat chance.

For many years I've wanted to see a Devil May Cry movie (note: DMC, not DmC), but considering CAPCOM, the anime and Hollywood right now, it'd probably suck so hard there'd be a Reverse Big Bang.

So... Mass Effect? It's doable.

Uncharted pretty much IS a playable movie in video game series form, so they better not screw that up if it's a go.

Bioshock prequel and Metroid would be very yes from me, but video games/anime rarely rarely get good live action films. Like, nothing good even comes to my mind. (Related: those weird, only loosely related RE flicks need to be stopped even worse than Umbrella! Seeing parts of one of 'em was enough for me to sob internally.)
