Manga That Deserve An Anime But Don't Have One
. I figured I'd try to catch up on some of the old manga and anime I've been missing out on for the past year or so. Including some reboots of source material that I was never a fan of as a kid.
Now it's a matter of fact that anything that gains even the slightest amount of popularity is destined to get a movie or TV show made about it. 'Failing Upward' as Kevin Smith once put it. Hence why some Manga that is not very good (not naming names) get several seasons of an anime, while good manga doesn't get an anime. Or if it does, doesn't get as much anime due to some issues with the source material, the author not wanting a Manga, the deviations from the source material, etc.
In some cases there are some Manga that are popular, well written, and deserve an anime but don't get an anime. and that's what this thread is for discussing.
Anyway, here are a few manga I think could use an anime Update.
Gunsmith Cats:
A Staple of the nineties anime craze. Gunsmith Cats only got one three episode OVA to it's name, despite having over two dozen volumes of source material to draw from. It's got guns, girls, hot rods, great art, fanservice that isn't pandering, and it's still popular and influential on artists in both Japan and the American Comic Book industry. I think Rally and Minnie May deserve a better small screen outing for a new generation.
Cage Of Eden:
Think a cross between your typical Harem Romance Anime, Jurassic Park, Lord Of The Flies, and Lost. A group of High School kids get stranded on a desert Island filled with extinct animals, weird buildings, and a bizarre religious cult composed out of several generations of survivors who came before. It's also got absurd levels of inappropriate fanservice. To the point where they show a girl in her underwear in typical harem anime style, as a dude is being disemboweled as realistically as possible by a cave bear in the same panel. But what's good about the manga far eclipses the amount of fanservice. The characters develop over the course of the story, shedding their doughy Japanese exteriors to become hardened badass wilderness survivors.
An Anime Adaptation could Iron out the flaws that the manga definitely has. The ending was a bit rushed and angered a few of the die hard fans.
Yotsuba &!:
A cute slice of life manga about a green haired girl who gets into a lot of trouble. Fun in the same vein as Azumanga Daioh. Not an anime because the creator doesn't think there is enough source material in the Manga for an ongoing anime series.
Come on! Are you telling me PoyoPoyo the futon cat gets an anime but not Yotsuba?
Junji Ito's Museum of Terror:
The Master of Japanese Horror has had his many Manga adapted into live action films of varying quality. But only one anime adaptation of his work (Gyo). I'd like to see what a great animation studio could do with the products of Junji's twisted imagination, and whether they could translate the same nightmarishly scary tone and body horrror in the Manga into an animated format, and I think Museum Of Terror is perfect for that.
It's a Horror Anthology Manga in the tradition of EC's Creepy, Tales From THe Crypt, The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, or John Carpenter's Masters Of Horror. With stories ranging from the nightmare inducing body horror that's come to define his works, to the silly stories with only token acknowledgements of the horror aspects. It's also where his horror villain protagonist/humanoid Eldritch beast Tomie made her debut.

Post a few more Manga that you think need to be made into an anime series if you want. This is just a sampler intended to begin a discussion. What Manga do you love that haven't gotten an anime yet?

would love to see an adaptation of Oyasumi Punpun, even though I know it's never gonna happen
"The will to lose one's will?"
"Absolutely. The will to make oneself completely free. Will is the wrong word, because in the end you could call it despair. Because it really comes out of an absolute feeling of it's impossible to do these things, so I might as well just do anything. And out of this anything, one sees what happens."--Francis Bacon

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

Good adaptations of Narutaru and Bokurano would be nice.
An anime of Believers could also be awesome.

There are adaptations I would like to see but I do not wish for knowing the current standarts of the industry. GSC has already the three OVA and they are perfect. A new series would turn all the muscle cars and gun porn into a terrible CG fest. Probably coming with some obnoxious wubstep OST too. Also no Burst, fuck Burst.
A Nausicaä adaptation only if Anno would collaborate with Ghibli and with Miyazaki supervising. Keep Khara as far away as possible. Only 7 HAND DRAWN YEARS of animation with Joe Hisaishi soundtrack is allowed.
Onanie Master Kurosawa would be manageable, though it came out at a time when Death Note was in everyone's conscious which made it so great.
I really like Girls und Panzer: Little Army or Ribbon Warrior, however, latter is still new with only a few chapters out so far.
I'm always game for some Gundam Crossbone and the entirety of Origin.
Dorohedoro by Madhouse maybe and for the love of the abyss and everything that's holy, give Berserk the proper rendition it deserves.

I had an idea, and it reminded me of this sort of thing
The idea was a Franken Fran anime, but then I remembered where I'd already seen it. Vinland Saga would be awesome too.
It's surprising how many of the troll chart titles actually got adaptations since.

I'm going to agree with Fireball. GUP Little Army and GUP Ribbon Warrior need their own anime series. Actually any new GUP anime would be great.
Also, I'd like to see the rest of the books in The Twelve Kingdoms get translated into anime so that series can finally be finished, and I'd like to see Neon Genesis Evangelion Anima get its own series.

I dunno. Madhouse pulled off Black Lagoon. which had similar amounts of Car, Girl, and Gun Fanservice.
Also no Burst, f*ck Burst.
I got into the series because of Burst.

Beserk should be taken out behind the shed and shot like the sick dog it is. It makes Game of Thrones look like Sesame Street.

Pfft. There's only like one major rape in the series and most of the core group are still alive at the time of writing. On a more serious note, while you may not approve of the frequently dark themes of Beserk, I think it is interesting from an artistic perspective and certainly doesn't aspire to grimdark for grimdark's sake in the same way as, say, Pupa; it seems to serve as a big deconstruction of the Shonen genre by showing what would realistically happen if normal humans attempted to fight against demonic entities. At the very least it's much richer thematically and visually than the usual weekly junk like Bleach, which I believe should be put down.
On that note I also believe they should give Claymore a proper anime rendition now that the manga itself is over; the original adaptation was pretty good but ended too soon and the final episodes were hampered by how much they had to diverge from the source material to quickly wrap things up.

Now I know that it's true
Because I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you

I don't know the last Madhouse show you have seen but all their talent went to Mappa when they got into financial trouble a few years ago. Their productions aren't what they used to be and they are exactly the kind of who are relying on foul CG to cut corners.

a lot of what people have been listing here have been things that have gotten an anime of some sort.So I will list something that as far as I know has not gotten an anime of any sort.
My favorite manga 7 Billion needles, it would be really cool to see that get an anime.

Aside from that like some others mentioned it'd be cool to see more of Junji Ito's stuff adapted. Also since Godzilla has some manga based off his movies, I'm going to throw that in here too. I'de love to see Anno do a Godzilla anime series.

I'm gonna bend the rules, and say Evillious should get an anime. We'd probably have to wait until mothy finishes the series, and then adapt different arcs for different seasons, but it would make the series much more accessible to newcomers.
I've always wanted to see an anime based on Crash Bandicoot, as well. There was a manga loosely based on Crash 2 that got cancelled after two volumes, but a full series would be much better.
There were plans for a series made by Disney and Square based on Kingdom Hearts that would use Disney's original animation cels when possible. Sadly, it never came to be.
As for an actual manga, I'll second the desire for a good anime of Berserk. Also, Kuso Miso Technique needs an OVA.
