Ugh, actually each Hobbit movie has just over 10 hours of extras. 10+ hours EACH. 600+ minutes per movie. And they are by far the absolute greatest behind-the-scenes extras there ever were and completely justify the existence of the Hobbit trilogy.

Yeah! The behind the scenes on THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES is a hundred times better than the piss poor film as you watch Peter Jackson & his talented crew are broken down by the aimlessness that comes with making a 145 minute with the bare outline of a script.

Poor Peter Jackson, a filmmaker who attained gold & still has the talent to do so.... but the thousands of people in the New Zealand film industry of "Wellywood" basically have to rely on every one of his projects to stay afloat.

Anywho, can't wait to get my SHIN GODZILLA Bluray! I want to luxuriate in the film. I'm sick & tired of looking for the sequence of Godzilla's atomic breath destroying Tokyo on Youtube & only finding the scene cut to shit so it's just the effect shots. I need my Anno unfiltered! The worst are someone has put that scene up but f'ed with it by applying an ugly videogame 60fps effect on Godzilla clips & it Is UGLY AS HELL.

I know exactly which video you're talking about. 60fps is great for games but looks disgusting in movies. Wasn't one of The Hobbit movies made with like 45? How did people react to that?

What's even worse is when it's done via interpolation. Film or video actually shot at 60 FPS has more detail to the movement than footage shot at 24 FPS filtered in post into appearing 60 FPS. Since Shin Godzilla was shot in 24 FPS, there will never be a true 60 FPS representation of any of its footage.

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Really shouldn't overlook the latter for both both Godzilla and Eva.

True. The majority of the practical effects work were brilliance.

Just pre-ordered the 4K Box-Set today. I think it's the same as the 3-disc Blu-ray Box Set with the extra 4K disc included as a 4th disc.

Now, I don't have a 4K blu-ray player yet, so....

Isn't that a bit redundant, then?

I just ordered the two disc version because I no don't have a 4k or 3D Blu-ray player. Any who, I'm glad the film has been so critically acclaimed in Japan. I've seen a lot hostility and negativity from hardcore fanboys for not being the "real" Godzilla they know and love and because the Big G is no longer an allegory for the Atomic bomb. Yes, Heaven forbid they make Godzilla in tune with modern times using a catastrophic event that has effected Japanese society which doesn't revolve around Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

:uhh:

^ I'll upgrade at some point, and I'd be a fool not to own an Anno film in 4K when that time comes.

According to my tracking number mine has been sitting in a warehouse in China for three days. About ready to go Mission: Impossible if it doesn't move soon.

My order method doesn't have a tracking number I can use, so I'll just be left in the dark until something amazing happens. The only thing I know about it is that it's been listed as "Shipped."

So about that final shot

SPOILER: Show
I think Godzilla was getting ready to evolve into a bunch of tiny lizard people, but of course, he was frozen mid-evolution. If there's a sequel, he's going to be thawed out, and we're gonna deal with some lizard people.

The movie wasn't exactly.. positive about the US, but I don't think it was too negative, either. It was also very "yay Japan" in a way I'd like more movies some actually good movies to be about the US. I didn't know what the word "nationalist" really meant back in October, because it'd been given a certain connotation that I hadn't thought to question. Having now seen the movie and become more familiar with nationalism, I would say this is a nationalist movie, and that's not a bad thing at all.

View Original PostRei IV wrote:Although I'm puzzled why Japan having its military again is considered "Right-wing"?

I don't understand the left vs. right divide very well. But in America, or at least on Americans' social media, nationalism is generally considered right-wing and globalism is generally considered left-wing. Japan having its own military and autonomous control over said military is more nationalistic than globalist, so, uhhh.. that's the logic. I'm not saying it makes sense, but I think that's where this comes from.

(By the way, if anyone has any objective definitions of "left" and "right," please do send them to me.)

Also, I am still without my Godzilla Blu-ray.
