IDK if I am in the minority thinking this but I held off on watching this movie until it comes out in uncut form without the 20 minute editing job the internet version left us. If I should go ahead and pay these cuts no mind because they are in fact superficial at best and enjoy the experience, feel free to let me know.

You should have watched it uncut in the theaters instead.

Unfortunately, Puerto Rico doesn't have that luxury. That is to say the film never came out on this rinky dink island. :(

My Blu-ray set finally came in the mail today! The 4K set is the same as the 3-Disc Blu-ray set with a 4th 4K BD Disc.

I wonder if I can find subtitles for it online somewhere...

It has pretty much every single one of the important Japanese screening events on Disc 2, and Disc 3 is dense with Making-Of material.

Did the quality of the film's CGI improve with the BluRay release compared to it's Theatrical showing?

(Akin to the improved quality of Eva 3.33 compared to 3.0)

Doesn't look any different to me. But I've always found the effects work to be flawless. The effects work is definitely going for a particular style because they can't compete with the hyper realism/cost of Hollywood blockbusters. Honestly, it's easily my favorite effects work since Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or Mad Max: Fury Road.

The effects were decent; hell excellent at parts, however the sequence that was glaringly bad was when Godzilla first Evolves into its bipedal form. It was distracting compared to other CG scenes. Why they didn't use an expanding puppet (Bigature :wink:lotr/JP) with close angle shots (similar to the Adult-puppet when it prepares atomic breath) is beyond me. Even the Baby Godzilla model that they made looks great compared to that CG scene.

I personally found Godzilla's CGI form in the beginning to be incredibly silly but that's just me, everything else seemed fine but for me that felt really out of place with everything else.

The CGI of Babyzilla is fine. Everything moves great, the weight distribution is dramatic yet believable, the texturing is fine, the rendering is good, the compositing is seemless, and the interaction between it and the miniatures and the live-action material is awesome.

The design of Babyzilla seems to be what everyone has varying opinions about. And that design would have been the same regardless of whether it was executed in CGI, puppetry, or Suitmation.

On May 3rd, Shin Godzilla will FINALLY have a screening near me. It's German dubbed - I hope they don't fuck it up. On the plus side, I've managed to reel in some friends that way (who wouldn't wanna read subtitles). I'm really looking forward to seeing it :)

I would've bet money that was a suit/puppet.

The CG at points are worse than what the Asylum can shovel out nowadays. Overall CG-Quality is inconsistent.

The CG is great when Babyzilla is dynamically flopping like a wet noodle, but dips around the evolving sequence.
The Atomic breath sequence is Fu@king amazing.
During Operation Yashiori Godzilla is stiff as a board. (I can accomplish more dynamic movements using SFM)

I Want a damn Wet-Noodle Godzilla, NOT an Uncooked one.

I'm fine with the design of baby-zilla. But again my point is that...

They decided to use some rippling effect across Godzilla's body that looked awful; easily the worst CG in the film.

Godzilla being stiff as a board when he's hibernating due to lack of energy is less of a flaw and more of the whole point. I can't think of very many reptiles or lizards who are quite active during (or after having been disrupted from) hibernation.

The ripple scene is weird looking, I'll give you that. But we've moved beyond discussing Babyzilla and have started to discuss a small selection of intermediate shots where the CGI figure in question is never really seen in full until after the awkward effect is finished. But I'd sooner compare it to that close-up of the CGI Brachiosaurus' head in Jurassic Park that was inconsistent from the physical puppet that was used than I would anything from Asylum.

Yeah, given that he was frozen he should have been stiff as a board.

The ripple scene is weird looking, I'll give you that.

Honestly, I was so weirded out by the design that I didn't even pay attention to the CGI.
