There's only so much discussion you can squeeze out from an anime review, even on a forum that can can have a 20 page thread on an Eva that has less than two minutes of screen time. However, political/social issues of our time always has enough room for people to post but that's solely because (no matter how much good intentions were made from whoever originated the discussion) it's so volatile in nature and the discussion can be had for years. Now whether or not it's the kind of discussion people want is a different argument. However this goes back to a previous post I made earlier, and even though people disagreed with me then and will do so now, I will reiterate: If you're making a topic about such subjects you're pretty much asking for an e-fight.
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

In this particular instance he was pointing out forum buffoonery that was disregarding the active policy in the news thread of NO POLITICS, Xard's reaction to this in itself is typical Xard though, he has always been a bit of a joker and the status of mod only temporarily softened this. Xard's "Ultra Conservative" views aren't completely his by himself of course, both sides are as guilty as the in regards to forum blunders, unable to contain themselves in reaction to perceived slights, reactions to shameless baiting, etc, in many ways Ian is right, fighting is inevitable, the primary issue is how clean these debates are, I've already said this before in the demogoguery thread that users need to maintain some form of discipline, getting hot heads to control themselves primarily.

I'm not going to prattle on, maybe it would be wise to make a thread to actually talk about the problems regarding forum politics and the differing cliques that actually reside on EGF to get a good bearing on what is what.

They wouldn't need to if there wasn't so much shameless baiting being tossed around. IOW don't blame the hornets for stinging you when you deliberately set out to poke their nest.

Also, the examples Xard gave weren't really political. They were references to events -- i.e., news -- and not political manifestos. They aren't the same thing.

I'm sure they'll be willing to drop their sticks when you drop your bat, which you're so endearingly attached to. :hahaha:

His responses were towards political subjects, laws on voting in gay marriage are political and abortion is also a political subject as it involves government legislation, responding to posts going on about Islamic state, that's all political. Hodges posted a link about gay marriage, he was simply responding with his own opinion, he's was simply catching the thread out.

The only reason I have a bat is because of those damn sticks. I don't go after Xard when he isn't stirring shit up (and in fact I didn't go after him at all this weekend even when he was stirring shit up).

Not really. When Tines posted a link about ISIS allowing women to blow themselves up without their husbands' consent that wasn't a political argument, it was just a "lol ISIS" bit of news. And when Paul posted the bit about Ireland's referendum he wasn't saying anything at all about gay marriage -- he was just noting how peculiar it is that Ireland is so progressive on that front and so regressive on others, which is the opposite of the way things normally play out in Western countries. Again, not a political argument, just a note that the situation was somewhat odd and ironic. Equating these to Xard's political opinions, complete with jabs at various groups who are actually represented here on in the forums, does not really compute.

"Both sides" doesn't really apply here.

I'm just going to say my $0.02:

I think Xard's demotion was for the best and it probably should have happened sooner. Much as I like chatting with Xard personally, he was ill suited for his role as a moderator. That being said, the blame for this whole nasty situation lies not with Xard, nor with the people he's had problems with in the past, but everyone. This whole forum just needs to get its fucking act together and stop acting like assholes to one another. If you don't like another poster, ignore them, don't parachute into a thread just to say how much you dislike them. Keep that shit to PMs, I don't need you to write a biting little comment to remind me you don't like a poster.

As for everyone arguing over who's right and who's wrong, shut the fuck up, you're both wrong. Stop arguing about it, you're not changing anyone's mind, you're just creating a bunch of noise that the rest of us have to shift through. This holier than thou righteousness and inability to accept responsibility for acting the way you do is irritating and contributes nothing. And this applies to all parties. Some I could signal out more than others, but it's something that (almost) everyone needs to remind themselves of. This post sounds harsh because that's my intention: I'm just so sick of this pointless bickering and squabbling. Keep your dislike of other posters off the forum. Just bury the hatchet and move on. You dislike another person on the internet. So fucking what? You people act like this is some decades long blood feud.

Regardless, it's good to say this out in the open.

Does this mean Xard can be normal now?

And normal being relative to his prior self in relation to his status, not relative to others.

I have no idea what you're trying to say, especially with the part that was originally in tiny font size. So I can't really answer. :chinscratch:

Yeah, it kinda blows having to bite your lip and leave a hundred posts unposted when there's fun forum moshing going on. There's no need for that now, thankfully.

I saw that Xard is not a mod anymore. Does this mean that someone else will take his place or the staff will work with fewer mods around?

There is no immediate plan to increase the size of the staff.

We were already "work[ing] with fewer mods around". Xard had already been inactive for months.

I was referencing to how you were more present back then, because you felt less obligation to hold back, but you have already answered that question. . .

So, it looks like Nukey has purple boxes now instead of red for some reason.

I wish i had purple boxes, i love purple.
Ofc that would require me getting a mod job and then retiring and neither of those two things would happen ever lol, im too lazy to handle all that work.

^Nuke isn't even a mod, he handles news for EGF. Colouring of bars usually denotes their position in the forum, Hodges is blue because he's an advisor etc. Would be nice to have a clear understanding of all the different colours though I guess.

If I were gay, I'd request rainbow boxes. I'd play that card for all it was worth.

Unfortuately, I'm not gay.

You guys don't miss a thing, do you? We're currently straightening out some of the inconsistencies in ranks between certain members (ie, members of the same rank having different colors as opposed to being uniform, members if differing ranks having the same color despite being different, etc). Nothing special, really, and mostly trivial, but we're currently experimenting.
