Death Note: The Musical

There are no plans for a Western production, but the show is written by Americans, so it's not impossible. At the very least, if the show does well there, we might get a subbed bootleg like the German Hunchback of Notre Dame show. which actually just made its way to America but that's for another topic

Only one thing can be a proper response to this:
"She had better march back here and try again! I only send people off on my terms! ...Or in a casket."

Same.
Ditto. The premise is already surreal, and they liked playing vaguely gregorian-chant music in the background when sh*t went down, so why not have the characters sing-a-long?

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

Anime-turned-musicals aren't too weird in Japan at least. Sailor Moon has the extremely popular Sera Myus, Utena had a musical, there's probably other series too.
I agree with Tumbling Down and Brik's thoughts that this could be great if done right. Death Note is one of those shows I haven't seen because it's not my cup of tea, but it's impossible to not know about it.

Without Sailor Moon we wouldn't have the whole anime musical trend. And the two most recent SeraMyus are pretty good. I read on wikimoon that the first anime musical was the 1993 Sailor Moon musical. Would I watch the Death Note, probably.

Well, there's the Takarazuka favorite Rose of Versailles, and even Legend of the Galactic Heroes got its musical, so why not Death Note? It's perfectly adaptable to the stage, unlike, for instance, Evangelion or TTGL.
Death Note is one of those shows I haven't seen because it's not my cup of tea, but it's impossible to not know about it.
The first third of Death Note is awesome and the show stays good until about mid-way...and that's when it goes downhill. You could give the early episodes a go, they're not nearly as dark or as messed up as the show turns later.
