Yes, I was quite surprised when I saw what Asuka's facial expression looked like in the original layout. I'm very relieved that they changed it!

That attention to detail gives me TREMENDOUS hope for Final. It tells me that everything has been considered with care, and that Anno knows exactly what he's doing and why. Between that and the comparisons between EoE and Q I can't help but be excited about what comes next!
For my post-3I fic, go here.
The law doesn't protect people. People protect the law. -- Akane Tsunemori, Psycho-Pass
People's deaths are to be mourned. The ability to save people should be celebrated. Life itself should be exalted. -- Volken Macmani, Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra
I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion
Yes, I know. You thought it would be something about Asuka. You're such idiots.

LE and whoever else that has Side A: Do you think y'all will post a review (including mentioning that printing error) on Amazon? Seems like there's only 1 review up so far, so the more the better, I think. :D

Bags: Totally! Has me very excited for the future. Even those derivative work Animator Expo Eva shorts had plenty of attention to detail.

I'm very excited for the final movie, too. (As well as any new Eva books that might be published because of the movie, of course! :D ) I'm sure Anno still has some incredible surprises in store for us.

As for the English version of the Side A book... oh boy. I've been going through it at a careful pace even though I've already read the book in French, because I want to compare the two versions in terms of quality, translation, etc. Well, in addition to the misprint in the English version that many of you have probably heard about by now, so far I've found two other mistakes. And they're worse than the misprint, because they're factual errors. Yes, factual errors in a book that's supposed to be a guide to understanding the anime! These mistakes are not in the French version... only the English version. :facepalm:

Anyway, hopefully in the next few days I'll have time to finish going over the English version and writing the review, so please check back for my final assessment of the book.

And that one is mine, and I'm clearly biased on these books, lol

@Literary Eagle

Very disappointed to hear that there are factual errors in this book :/ And after all the delays on its release, you'd think they would've had the time to check for the quality of the translation AND the layout/printing for the book. VERY much looking forward to your review :)

Still don't regret this purchase, though, beautiful book. Excited for Side B still, esp. for the information it'll have.

I posted my 32nd review today! This time, it's The Essential Evangelion Chronicle: Side A. It's a detailed guide to the first 13 episodes of the Evangelion TV series and includes character profiles, relationship charts, some pictures of merchandise, and more! I tried to make this review as informative as possible, so hopefully it will still be of interest to those who have already received their copies of this book. For example, I also have the French version of the book, so I was able to provide the text that is missing from the English edition due to the infamous misprint. The English version also has three other mistakes in addition to the misprint, so I pointed those out as well. Oh, and I talked about the significance of a particular date provided by the timeline in the book, and what it means for attempts at figuring out dates for the major events that take place during the show. And I already have the second volume, Side B (French version), so I gave a few hints about what you can expect to find in that book.

I hope you enjoy the review, and if you have questions or comments, feel free to post them here!

Thanks as usual for your informative review! ^_^ I really hope you'll add your own review to Amazon on the off-chance UDON reps see it so they could correct their mistakes in future printings.

This and cody727kirby's Amazon review definitely make me want to pick up English Side A and B, it's just a matter of time and money, hehe.

Other than forgetting to list the Amazon.ca version, it's a good review. The best compliment I can give you is that you should be interviewed by Nicholas A Basbanes.

Thanks for the comments, SSD and cyharding! It's always nice to know if people are enjoying the reviews and finding them helpful. As for notifying UDON Entertainment about the mistakes, I sent them an email about it through the feedback form on their website. I also thanked them for their efforts in releasing English versions of Evangelion books, and said that I'm very much looking forward to their release of the Side B book. ^_^

NEW POST

I posted my thirty-third review today! This time, it's Evangelion Ten Zuroku, which reproduces some of the beautiful pictures that were featured at an Evangelion art exhibition. It includes production sketches from the new movies, and other cool stuff as well. It's a gorgeous book, so if you aren't familiar with it then be sure to check out the review. And if you already have this book... check out the review anyway, because I translated the French poetry that appears on the Sahaquiel page. Heh. As always, questions and comments are welcome!

I posted my thirty-fourth review! This time, it's Shin Seiki Evangelion TV Animation Settei Shiryoushuu 2015 edition, a really nice collection of pre-production sketches from the Evangelion TV series, with a little bit of Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion included as well. This is a new book that just came out a few days ago, so I hope you enjoy the review! :D

NEW POST (September 24, 2015)

I'm back with a new computer, and I posted my thirty-fifth review today! This time, it's a special booklet called the Neon Genesis Evangelion Newtype 1000% Collection (not to be confused with the Newtype 100% Collection, which I already covered way back in my ninth review). Enjoy! Also, I will be receiving some interesting new stuff soon, so stay tuned for more book reviews!

Can it be that I've posted another new book review already? Yes, it is! I posted my thirty-sixth review today, which is for Mode EVANGELION2 ~20th Anniversary MOOK~. This is a new publication that came out just a few days ago, and it includes some special bonus goodies, including a tote bag! Check out the review, and as always questions and comments are welcome!

Also, many thanks to cyharding and robersora for their kind words in response to my previous review. It's always good to know if people think these reviews are helpful, or at least entertaining. Thanks for sticking with me for all this time, folks. My Evangelion collection has grown to over 100 books (Whoa!), so I've got plenty more reviews left to go. Stay tuned, and thanks again. ^_^

I posted my thirty-seventh review today! This time, it's The Art of Yoh Yoshinari Illustrations, a new book that came out just last week (although apparently people who went to Comiket had the opportunity to get it earlier). It collects lots of drawings by the great artist and animator Yoh Yoshinari, including stuff for Evangelion. I hope you enjoy the review! Oh, and special thanks go to cyharding for alerting me about this cool book... I had been a bit out of the loop while I was busy with a whole bunch of stuff (including trying to get my new computer up and running), so I would have missed out on preordering it if he hadn't pointed it out to me. Thank you, cyharding! ^_^

Also, many thanks to those who commented on the previous review...

AR-99: Cool, I hope you enjoy it!

cody727kirby: When I first started collecting Evangelion books, I had no idea there were so many, either! What have I gotten myself into? -o-;

Thanks for reading! Have a great day, everyone!

Eva can be a black hole for collectors in multiple product areas, welcome to the abyss. :heehee:

Yoshinari was at AX this year but wouldn't draw Eva because he had supposedly forgotten. :uhh: Did get an Akko from Little Witch Academia on Day 1 and a Nonon on Day 2. One of my friends got him to draw a somewhat chunky Eva-01 with persistence on Day 3.

As a long-time fan of Yoh Yoshinari it was great to finally get a big, fat, shiny artbook.

Now we just need one from Takeshi Honda with all his new Eva material., but that probably won't show up until after Final :(
