Do you want FINAL to be it or do you want a new show?
Do you want final to answer all or most of the back story and questions and be done with it or would you like it to focus on the END and the studio immediately make a new Eva tv series/movie, mini series that covers the time skip and focuses on Misato leaving nerv, the actual 3rd impact, building of Maris character and exploring her backstory and exploring Asuka's backstory (hopefully different from the original series just to keep things interesting) and the creation of Willie and the wunder.

Bro I think that would be awesome. Maybe if they tie in Rebuild with the NGE, they'll re-release the original stuff on Blue Ray. Oh or Anno can say that NGE is the sequel to Rebuild and then re-release it on Blue Ray, that would be a clever twist.
Man I wonder what will come after Rebuild? Oh it would be so awesome for them to adapt Anima! I love the character designs.

I would go with the mini-series, obviously a lot of things happened during the time skip, and while it's easy to cover the main events relevant to Shinji in a quick flash-back/info dump in FINAL (namely what Mark.06 and the 12th Angel were doing in Lilith's Chamber and what were their part in the destruction of the world), there are many other things that could only be properly explained and explored via a longer run time from a mini-series, such as Misato discovering the truth (with the probable help of Kaji) and acting to try to bring down NERV and SEELE from inside before splitting, how WILLE managed to get all these resources, Mari and Asuka's meeting and gradual gain of trust and friendship ending...

Kensuke is a military otaku who, at one point, is shown creepily taking pictures of girls to sell. He would clearly fit right in as an animator at Studio Gainax. -- Compiling_Autumn
EoTV is a therapist, EoE is a drill instructor. -- Chuckman
Seriously, that is the most fananked theory I've ever heard, more than Mari being Marty McFly travelling through time to keep her parents (Asushin) together. -- Jäeger

I would be fine with anima for sure, but before that I think I would like to see that concept of what if Misato was a pilot.
RANT coming in 3... 2... 1...
SPOILER: Show
What if katsuragi came back early from the expedition himself alongside Misato instead of Gendo?
(Mabye to see Misato's mother who was dying?)
What if the contact experiment was more of a success than in the original series.
And they learned so much more from it that they are able to build a partially functioning eva much much quickly and as to semi save mistato's dying mother they merged her with a core like yui in the original series, and Misato is aware of this and is thereby the only candidate for being its pilot, the curse of the Eva sets in which is why she has not aged by the time we get to 2015 and the Angels arrive.
Katsuragi Marrys yui, and there son is Shinji, who is now mistato's half brother, but is not a pilot so he ages past Misato.
(Sorry I'm rambling here)
Misato is semi promiscuous and enjoys lots of sex but does so out of a healthy sexual appetite and beleives that love and phisical affection should being given freely and not out of some self hating need to diminish her self.
Her being in the body of a 16ish year old is of course problimatic for someone with said sexual drive so she can only sleep with the other pilots who also don't age, (Kaji Mabye being one of them?)
Question - has there been any threads made just about the above art work?
I think I would be right at home there lol.
Ugh the eva universe is so rich and detailed the possibilities are endless

What i want is:
-OVA or 12 TV episodes of covering the timeskip
-ANIMA TV anime adaption
-TV anime adaption of Sadamoto's manga with 26 episodes
-Blu-Ray versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion and End of Evangelion
-4 new movies covering a very different universe where Touji is a main character and pilot, new characters and pilots etc.
So basically i want them to milk EVA to death

Misato, the 3rd Childlen.
Another entirely new project might be nice, (no adaptations or side-stories in animated forms, plz) if they have ideas, they should go for it. But honestly, I hope it'll be over after Final, so Anno and friends have time for other projects again.

In particular, we should wait to see how Final resolves our present uncertainty before demanding anything as specific as a fill-in story. Not that demands would have any effect in any case.

But 3.0 already fulfilled its purpose, and Evangelion is so much of a big thing in Japan that everyone and its mother probably know about the time skip and post-apocalyptic setting by now, and those who don't are probably not interested in the franchise to begin with.
To have a spin-off about the time skip while making ti clear that it should be seen after the main movies (example : call it Evangelion 4.5 or something like that) wouldn't be an absurdity.

I think a story needs to have its ending, and the fact that a story is over should be respected.
The ending is meant to conclude and, a way, put the final pricetag on everything else;
They can make more quirky AUs, sure, but Sequelitis seldom leads to anything good.
We weren't shown the timeskip for a reason; You can gather plenty of Asuka's & Misato's circumstances & Motivations by paying attention.
Yozu seem to be thinking that a depictioon of one or two traumatic events is needed to justify why Misato acts that way, but it's really the compound effect of life in hell, and flashbacks can't do it justice.

@ Kendrix : a spin-off about the time skip wouldn't be a case of sequelitis, since it would be about a part of the story unexplored and during which a lot of very important events happened.
And as I said, as long as people respect the proper order of viewing (the three movies and then only the spin-off), all the subtleties of the characters' interactions and motivations stays intact.

This, but do it as a collection of 15-min shorts with a lighthearted feel similar to Puchi Eva (but with hints in the background or side comments that hint at unspeakable conditions) for maximum Q mood whiplash, all while explaining almost nothing about the main story. Basically set trolling to maximum for Wille Crew Adventures!

While I'm always in for more stuff of my favourite franchise, I think it would be better to let Eva rest.
It would be a severe case of sequelitis, because further exploration would severely cheapen the impact of Q. Evangelion is a work that lives in part due to the unanswered questions. That is what makes it interesting. Sure, I'd love to get spelled out everything for me, but then Evangelion would be nothing more than another run-of-the-mill Mecha-show. ENT lacks severely in character-depth compared to the original. (It still has plenty to offer compared to a Naruto, of course) And that's ok. But Q tried its hardest to make something interesting again, which has slid dangerously near the pitfall of generic entertainment with Ha. And I hope Anno respects the huge clearance he managed to hit with Q.
I think Anno knew well enough, that with ENT he would absolutely not manage to get the same depth of characterisation and allegory he realised with the original. So he went another route and told a story that has emotional impact and raises questions through clever omission. BUT he made sure, that everything we needed to know, we know. Sure, we'd love to know more, but there is nothing that cannot be understood when you pay attention to the details. And that is great, because the unbeknownst and unclear generates intrigue.
You can even explain Kaworu's cryptic lines with the time-looper theory, which is never denied but also never confirmed. So everyone can choose in what they want to believe. And this remains one of the greatest strengths of ENT. The stimulation to use your own head and think.
I like how ENT goes its own way of spreading a huge canvas of unanswered questions your mind can play on. It is complex, not quite like the original and by no means as deep. But it is great in it's own right. And further explanatory material would only destroy that for me.

I want 4.0 to be the final ending to the thing.
I know it's an anime and I don't have expectations anymore, I know the media form and context will always dictate and limit the work, but I hope Anno to have some kind of compromise. He can't hide. He can't leave unanswered questions. He can't release some half-coherent narrative, no matter how great it is, and expect the fan community to interpret it piece by piece in the next 10 years using things as games and storyboards, which in my mind are external and should never be cannon or necessary.
Also I really want Shinji and Asuka to make out or something in a similar level, it'll be really disappointing if after decades of soft attraction they don't get together.
I don't really care about the timeskip to be honest, unless it focus on Asuka and Seele exclusively, because Seele seems way passive so far for a group of people who had their plans screwed.
I also don't care about Anima, I have read about it and found... Uninteresting.
While I love Evangelion, sometimes it feels like I'm reading a never ending shonen manga. God damn, I want them to leave Namek. I want the unsaid but explicity things between character to be finally expressed. I want some kind of conclusion.
I would accept if 4.0 was only the movie before the ending, tough. 3.0 was sucha pleseant shock that would be great to have an extended Rebuild.
My biggest fear is getting trolled by Anno in the end.

Having gotten off the Rebuild train at the first stop, I would greet any future project with immense indifference. It would have to be something as off the wall as either PuchiEva or Anima, that got outside the fanfic zone.
