^Started playing DS1 again recently, and I think you can also throw the Hellkite Drake onto the 'badly-designed' pile. It's an optional boss, admittedly (albeit one that blocks the way to one of the more memetic co-op covenants) but it's exceptionally annoying because it almost requires you to die to it several times in order to learn its patterns, and the simple act of standing in the wrong place can throw the entire battle of. From what I can tell, the dragon is coded to respond with a certain attack based on the player's position on the bridge, and if the player is still in that position after the attack then it will keep spamming it until they die (if they haven't already). This wouldn't be annoying on its own, but most of the dragon's fire attacks are OHKOs without Flash Sweat or a lot of HP and fire resistance, they all cause knockdown which can move the player into a bad position and allow it to charge its next attack before you can react accordingly (for example, getting knocked into cover can actually be bad because if you don't get back into visual range quickly the dragon will just fly straight upwards and bombard the whole area with unblockable flames until you die or stand in front of it again) and many of its flying moves prevent the player from hitting it at all, which causes both melee and ranged builds to suffer. Many bosses in the game feel like they have some gimmick or edge, but the Hellkite Drake just seems badly designed because of how heavily it relies on having OP attacks and evasion in order to force new players to face it repeatedly.

^So it wasn't just me sucking at that boss fight then, that's good.

They should've made the bridge a lot bigger or put it somewhere else entirely. The only thing it did was give you the Drake Sword, and let you skip earlier levels with a constant 555 souls. (Then there is the covenant which you need to run past it or kill it for...)

I just did "no bonfire" - challenge run in DS2 for the first time on a new character and it took about 4 hours for me to beat it.

My hands are still sweaty after finishing it. -o-;

EDIT: I still plan to release the in-depth DS2 lore post, school and Bloodborne dlc have postponed it unfortunately.

Out of interest, is anyone here planning on pre-ordering DS3? I am very tempted by the artbook, map and soundtrack offered with the Collector's Edition, but the price is very off-putting. I am also considering the much cheaper Apocalypse Edition that's being offered in the UK by GAME that comes with the soundtrack and metal case, although I have also heard that they're very bad at handling pre-orders.

DS3 GAMEPLAY
Wat.

No really just what?
Dark souls movement was always much more realistic in how it worked, everything had WEIGHT, DS3 was asking a lot from me with its increased speed already but........those moves look like they should be in bloodborne, bloodborne was much more fast paced and unrealistic and i liked that, it separated it from DS and that was good, they were two very different games.
Now this is just trying to put BB shit in DS3 and its killing all the immersion I had, it just does not fit.........

Dark Souls 3 just looks like a combination of Bloodborne and Dks2. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing and I'm likely gonna wait on buying this one.

It looks like it is influenced from Bloodborne (the environments and atmosphere) and it makes sense since these two games were in development at the same time, as for the DkS2 resemblance.... i don't know.

Btw, a reddit user discovered from an Australian digital pre order page that there will be a season pass that says that the game will receive 2 DLC packs which will add new maps, bosses, enemies and items.

So basically, a release pack containing all the DLCs like Scholar of the First Fire is all but confirmed.

DLC is pretty much a given at this point since almost every Soulsborne game except Demons's Souls has had it. I'm not too worried, since FROM's DLC is usually great. The Steam pre-order page already offers the 'Digital Deluxe' pre-order which gives you both the DLC and the base game as well as the game's soundtrack.

That just give me a reason to wait for DKS3, it actually had me incredibly annoyed that i bought all 3 DLC for DKS2 separately, and then they come out with the Scholar edition. Waste of money IMO buying all 3 separately.

Did you seriously expected that they won't bundle all DLCs in one pack?

If you go a few pages back, i called it even before DkS2 got released. It happens with the 99% of the games today.

If anyone doesn't mind spoilers, a bunch of different sites and YT Souls channels got access to the first segment of Dark Souls 3 (from the starting area to around the third boss) recently.

Personally, i am going to stay away from any video. I didn't even looked the ones i posted ^_^ . At the end of the month, the internet will be full with spoilers about the bosses and the ending because it's coming out earlier in Japan. Maybe i'll read some impressions but nothing that spoils anything. Since this is the final Dark Souls game, i expect the ending to get leaked first.

I thought they said it wasn't the final souls game tho?

Hey I'm fine if it is, because lets be honest, it needs to be.

First, they said it will be the last. After, they said it won't be the last. Some months ago, they said they don't know yet. Last thing they said, is that Dark Souls 3 is the turning point for the company and the franchise. Whatever that means.......
