I would like to do this. Is there a particular procedure for going about it? Or should I just PM a mod?

You PM a mod, but only one person can do this (me) since it requires taking the database down to update post content. Since it's a pain in the ass to do, it generally requires a good reason, something better than "bored of my current username".
