My crush's younger brother was shocked when I told him about episode 200 and he looked it up and watched it. The 90's anime was the best, you just can't pull off the stuff they did there in Crystal.

The panty shots
The body lines
That time in R where Rei went up Minako's dress when Chibiusa messed with the gravity
A lot of plots and dialogue and episodes like 200 or even the whole starlights thing or Haruka and Michiru's talks in Stars
And the one episode in R where Mako stated the one with biggest breasts should play Snow White
Or Drunk Usagi

They just don't make anime like they used too.

It's better with the fanservice, funny facial expressions, classic openings and endings, and superb voice acting. Yeah Crystal is decent, but it's not giving the same emotions when I watch the 90s Sailor Moon anime. Cause episodes 45 and 46 are more emotional than the dark kingdom arc in Crystal.

This episode (You can see the scene in the episode preview after the OP credits): http://www.viz.com/anime/streaming/sail ... 4/6928/sub

There's also this episode with Mercury and Jupiter in classic: http://www.viz.com/anime/streaming/sail ... 1/6739/sub Incidentally this was voted as a fan-favorite episode or something along those lines. The show needed more episodes about Luna as well as Artemis!

I think I preferred ADV's "This is how a real drenching beauty looks!" to VIZ's "I'm a real "Pretty Wetty!" when Usagi needs a towel from the rain. Though the translator for ADV's season 1 and 2 boxsets was the same lady that translated Eva Platinum, so it surprised me that ADV kept the DIC dub terms for the weapons (e.g. DIC's "Crescent Moon Wand" vs original's plain "Moon Stick").

Edit: Oh yeah, all of you be sure to track down the clean doujin A-Zone Volumes 1-5 by Kiyohiko Azuma. 3 and 5 are the only ones untranslated, but they're all hilarious with the crazy things the Senshi get into. Azuma's Eva doujins were hilarious too.

___

New post:

Queen Serenity dub clip! Pretty good job. I keep on expecting to see the cross pan-out cut since it was in the DIC dub, heh. Happy to hear they're not gonna crop the images like the last set (if more and more reviews come out where people are happy, I might get both Season 1 sets later down the road).

God damn it, I reared up while watching this. Classic makes me tear up every time I watch through it. Nephrite's death, episode 44, and especially and episodes 45 and 46. :sniffle:

Last night's news: Super Sailor Moon S.H. Figuarts before Pluto? Welp: http://www.sailormooncollectibles.com/2 ... rts-debut/ Though, they sort of release the Figuarts in pairs, so I guess we'll get a release date for her, then Pluto. I'd love an Eternal Moon Figuarts though!

I might get a Moon (July 2014 resale edition, no 2 bonus faces) and Neptune (Part 2 pic review) to keep Venus company, but still debating.

A part of me is wondering about getting the SM Season 1 DVD 1 & 2 sets, but it's probably best for me to wait on the 3 movies and S. VIZ removed the forced 4:3 for their set 2 DVDs (the pillarboxing), but still, the quality sounds pretty bad. :| I just want something nice to replace my ADV Season 1 box!

Edit: Annnnd it was just revealed that Toei reairing SM in April is an HD REMASTER. FFFFFF--- :derp:

http://sailormoon-official.com/information/hd.php

To be fair, I guess we shouldn't be expecting Eva on BD quality (New HD Telecine) since Toei's a cheap company but still. Rumor has it it's just an upscale.

Don't tell me you watch 4:3 shows with the image stretched to fit the widescreen.

All I care about is whether the tops and bottoms will get cut off to force it to fill a widescreen. :scared: (As if I'm going to see it from here in America. Unless it airs on Crunchyroll -- but we can only hope.)

Where'd you get that from? O_o Season 1 Set 1 apparently made things look like a postage stamp with the fixed 4:3 aspect ratio; so it's good to hear they got rid of that pillarboxed nonsense in Set 2.

If Toei's HD Remaster looks like it does in that example here http://sailormoon-official.com/information/hd.php then I'd be happy. The HD remastered will be airing on a Japanese subscription channel, so maybe at best we'd get raws or fansubs?

A strong part of me doubts VIZ would be able to nab rights to eventual Japanese BD boxsets when:
VIZ really should have just left their R2 DVD masters alone and released Season 1 as DVD-only instead of trying to make it "look better".

Out of boredom and sheer sickness from the snow heaping up outside, I watched Episode 10 of the old Sailor Moon. The rather perverse transformation sequences aside, I liked it far more than the Crystal equivalent. Usagi is more of a crybaby than ever and hilariously so (and I can very clearly hear how Mitsuishi's voice has aged in Crystal), Ami is obsessed with tests and studies as only a high-performing Asian cram school student can ever be, and Rei is angrier, hotter-headed, tougher and more irreverent than ever before. Tux seems to have tricks of his own - how does he mysteriously pop into that dimension and drive the stolen buses out just like that?

Watching Episode 1 was a mistake - it turns out that this series starts to show its colors after the first couple of episodes, and I actually found it hilarious!

So much for the manga and that crappy Crystal!

I agree, the female body is utterly repulsive and base. I don't understand how the empire of the sun could allow such degeneracy in their TV stations.

Dude, sexualizing 12/13-year old kids who look their age is disgusting. That's what happens in every single transformation sequence.

For you maybe
seriously though the transformation scenes never exactly struck me as being very sexual plus i never exactly thought any anime character ever looked their age, then again i never had it drilled into my head that ogling underage anime characters makes you the worst kind of person so i might just be a gross pervert who wasn't taught better.
also you say this but remember something: Asuka and Rei are 14 (well physically 14 anyway), which means they are the same age as usagi yet you don't seem to object to all the sexualization there.

hell by this logic usagi is a lot better because by the end of the series she is 16 and technically legal in some places.

Unlike the gentleman portrayed here, I can resist anything.

On a more serious note, I stick to my guns here. The transformation sequences(and some other scenes, like panty shots) are wholly unacceptable and should never have been created in the first place, because they add nothing and serve to blot an otherwise very enjoyable show. I have the same complaint with the costumes and some of the very compromising shots of Ryuko in the early episodes of KlK - they add nothing and blot what would otherwise be one of the most feminist Shonen series ever created.

Are you talking about the panty shots while in costume? because those are not panties.
That's a full body suit they are wearing there.

I do not understand the crusade against fanservice, so long as its done tastefully it doesn't matter, this isn't fucking maken ki here, so you saw a panty flash? who the fuck cares, chances are you might see that one irl too if the wind gets intense, its the female body not some alien thing.

Do you have tourettes or are you naturally prone to these kinds of random outbursts? The problem being addressed isn't about fanservice in general, it's that these are 12/13 year olds. If you don't see the problem with sexualizing underaged girls on network television, then well, we probably shouldn't be having this conversation.

14-16 actually.
Also i could do without the insults, i swear like a fucking sailor but i rarely get actually angry unless the thing im looking at REALLY offends me, for example those times i went off on a rant at xard.

Now if you have a problem with my swearing that's fine and all but im going to keep doing it.

Wasn't an insult, was a serious question. And we (did) have forum guidelines about using excessive language like that but it wasn't included in the most recent rev, so it's not that I personally have a problem with it, but that it's not really something that belongs on the forum.

I guess you're going to have to avoid most anime, as the over-18 age cohort is regarded as positively geriatric by default. Especially avoid mahou shoujo, even ones actually aimed at little girls like Princess Tutu.
